Wes' World: A Confession!

March 21, 2012

Over the course of one’s life it’s a given that one makes mistakes; some certainly bigger than others, a few medium ones and most small but lingering with stories to go with them to last a lifetime and bear signpost of warning to those who may follow. I myself have a dark mistake from my youthful teenage days that has haunted me these many years. It is something I am not proud of but it is at last time to confess and release myself from its hostage of my conscience. I hope you won’t think any the worse of me for this exposure of my human frailties.

Wes' World

March 11, 2012

A couple things come to mind this week

Excerpt from "Lucy Gayheart" by Willa Cather

"In little towns, lives roll along so close to one another; loves and hates beat about, their wings almost touching. On the sidewalks along which everybody comes and goes, you must, if you walk abroad at all, at some time pass within a few inches of the man who cheated and betrayed you, or the woman you desire more than anything else in the world. Her skirt brushes against you. You say good-morning, and go on. It is a close shave. Out in the world the escapes are not so narrow."

Wes' World: Adventures with Cream of Wheat!

March 8, 2012

Do you know how to make Cream of Wheat? I ask as I had to go and buy a box of the stuff to put on exhibit with the “Key Ingredients: America by Food” to represent ND (We’re known for Cream of Wheat by whomever it is who chooses such things and it was invented in Grand Forks in 1893) as well as the bag-o-Lutefisk and ground flax seed that is locally made. Well, I've gone and outwitted myself again since I emptied the contents of the boxes and bags at home and put the Cream of Wheat box in the display.

Wes' World: Oh Lutefisk Oh Lutefisk.

March 8, 2012

Front and center on my agenda is the Traveling Smithsonian Exhibit “Key Ingredients: America by Food” that is on display here at the Barnes County Museum now through March 11th. Sponsored by the North Dakota Humanities Council this exhibit is touring six communities in ND in 2011 and 2012 and I’ve learned that it will tour another six ND towns for 2012-2014.
