A little over a year ago, the Times-Record told you about a new coffee shop and community center that was slated to open in Valley City. What made The Vault Coffee Shop and Bakery unique was its self-service pay-by-honor-system business model. Eight months after its grand opening in October, The Vault has gained international attention for its unique business model, which seems to be working.

This time it wasnâ€™t easy, as Valley City returned from Ellendale, N.D., Wednesday night with a pair of comeback District wins, 7-6 and 6-5, for their seventh and eighth straight wins.
â€śWe didnâ€™t play up to our best today, but we fought through it and found a way to pick up two big wins,â€ť Babe Ruth head coach Lance Lukes said. â€śAnd like I told the boys, a W is a W, and we escaped today with two of them.â€ť

After nearly a half-century as an auctioneer, Tony Heinze of Dazey, was recently honored with an induction into the World Wide College of Auctioneering Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed upon him after a lifetime of selling everything from antiques to livestock. "It's a top-notch, first-class honor," said Heinze.
Two Valley City women are starting a fee-free flea market, and the first is set for Saturday, July 12 outside of Bowen Welding north of Valley City. Jodi Rae Ingstad, who is starting the market with Sheree Bowen, said anyone who has something to sell is encouraged to set up a booth.
Vendors can begin setting up at 7 a.m. and customers can arrive then for shopping and fellowship.

Legion Post 60 fell in June 16â€™s doubleheader at LaMoure, 14-8 and 7-2.
LaMoure led 10-0 through two innings in the opener, and Post 60 scored a run in the third and fourth, two in the fifth and four in the seventh, but the rally fell short. Legion posted eight hits and two errors, LaMoure 16 hits and three errors.
Masyn Olsen and Austen Meyer picked up two hits and Jesse Johnson batted in three runs.
Austin Berg pitched four innings and struck out three, Dalton Ondracek
a single inning. Meyer fanned two batters.
Adam Maresh won three power lifting gold medals and Jennifer Bennett a track and field silver medal in representation of Valley City and North Dakota in June 14-21â€™s Special Olympics USA Games in Princeton, N.J., from which Team North Dakota came away with nine gold medals, four silver and seven bronze.
North Dakota, featuring 34 athletes and 10 coaches, competed in Athletics (Track and Field), Aquatics, Bowling, Powerlifting, Unified
Bocce, Unified Soccer and Unified Volleyball.
Dawson Dietrich landed five of 31 Valley City hits on Tuesday as Babe Ruth scored 13 first-inning runs, six in the second, seven in the third and six in the fourth to demolish Edgeley, 32-1.
Rylee Bjorkâ€™s five-inning, five-walk, four-strikeout no-hitter did the rest to complete the season sweep.
Winds gusting to 45 miles an hour or so over much of North Dakota, including the Valley City area, led to road-related problems.
