Community members had a second opportunity to give input and voice their opinions about the proposed Valley City Health, Wellness and Physical Education Center Monday. About 60 area residents and community leaders were on-hand for a meeting where backers of the proposed wellness center explained the proposal and answered questions about the proposed $16 million project. St. Catherine's Elementary School has a new principal this year. Replacing Ralph Dyrness who retired after 28 years, Jason Stangeland, a Brookings, S.D. native, became the new principal in June. More in Tuesday's Times-Record.

Valley City Baseball Association and the Valley City High School athletic department announce the hiring of Jerry Bennefeld as Hi-Liner head varsity baseball coach.
Bennefeld played baseball for Waubonsee Junior College in Sugar Grove, Ill., and the University of Minnesota, Crookston.
Bennefeld has past experience coaching youth at all levels and works as an insurance agent for American Family Insurance in Valley City.
Bennefeld, his wife Kelly and their two children have resided in Valley City since 2004.
Saturday was a great day to run for the Hi-Liners! Casey Engelhard celebrated his 18th birthday with his best performance of the season, finishing third out of 81 runners. He was in about 10th midway through the race, and then found another gear and picked off runners one by one with a strong finish.
