Barnes County North Boys Get 1st Win in OT

Barnes County North picked up their first win of the season as four Bison scored in double figures in a 67-65 overtime thriller at home against Kidder County on Saturday night.

Bison senior guard TJ Steckler led Barnes County North with 23 points, junior guard Wyatt Steckler scored 11 and freshman guard/forward Justin Manson and senior forward William Gerntholz 10.

Pirates senior guard Ben Steinolfson turned in 16 points, junior forward
Ryan Sand 15, senior center Cole Scherbenske and junior guard Jayden Miller 10.

Maple Valley Girls Beat Central Cass for Eighth Straight Win

Sophomore forward Rylee Nudell led the Lady Raiders with 15 points on Saturday night as Maple Valley endured a late run to hold off District 2 rival Central Cass, 51-43, in Tower City on Saturday night.

Squirrels senior guard Kirby Camas scored 18 points and senior forward Abby Cramer 13 to lead Central Cass.

Maple Valley (4-0 District 2, 10-1 overall), winners of eight straight games, host District 2 rival Enderlin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Tower City.

Maple Valley Boys Defeat North Sargent

Maple Valley senior center James Richman scored 10 of his 28 points in the third quarter, and sophomore guard Riggs Nudell 10 more as the Raiders took out North Sargent, 60-44, in Tower City on Saturday night.

North Sargent senior forward Dawson Peterson put up 20 points and sank 8 of 10 free throws to power the Bobcats.

Maple Valley (3-2 District 2, 7-6 overall) faces LaMoure/Litchville-Marion (1-1 District 5, 7-6 overall) Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in LaMoure.

Wear White for VCSU - Jamestown on Wednesday Night

Wednesday’s Valley City State men’s and women’s basketball games against Jamestown have been designated as “White Out” contests, VCSU announced Monday.

VCSU’s athletic department encourages VCSU fans to wear white in support of the Vikings as they face the rival Jimmies. The Viking women tip off at 5:30 p.m., the men at 7:30 p.m. at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.

Cafe Concert Rescheduled

The Valley City Junior Senior High School cafe concert's Sunday performances have been postponed to Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Hi-Liner Activity Center. The two performances will be combined into one due to facility conflicts. The seventh- and eighth-grade choirs will perform at the Wednesday show.
Monday's performance will remain the same, featuring the sixth-grade students from Washington Elementary School beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday's performance tickets will not be honored for Monday's performance unless ticket holders call the school and exchange tickets on Monday.

Churches Alerted about Scam Artist

The Valley City Police Department is cautioning area churches about a convicted child sex offender from California who is allegedly operating a scam.
A release from the VCPD said Kenneth Monk, a 5-foot-9-inch, 140-pound white male with brown hair and brown eyes, has been walking into churches, telling the congregations that his wife has died in a car accident and he needs money to get to Forest, Miss., to go to the funeral and be with his children. It's estimated that Monk is about 35 years old.

Barnes County commissioners Tuesday approved rebuilding work on two county roads done over the summer, said Kerry Johnson, Barnes County Highway superintendent.

Viking Men Win, Women Lose at Mayville State

Valley City State’s basketball teams split their North Star Athletic Association conference openers Saturday at Mayville State, the men winning 68-59 while the women lost 76-58 to the No. 16-ranked Comet women.
