Sex Offender Working in Valley City

Registered sex offender Russell Wayne Stephens is now working at 101, Central Avenue, Valley City.

Stephens is considered a high-risk offender with a lifetime registration. In 2003, he was convicted of having oral sex and intercourse with a 10-year-old girl. Stephens claims to have no recollection of the offense.
Stephens, 51, is a white male with gray hair and brown eyes. He is six feet, three inches tall and weighs 240 pounds.

Nearly 200 at U of Jamestown Event

RUNNING WITH THE WIND: Lentz, Hi-Liners Breeze Past Kindred

Any way the wind blows doesn’t really matter to Jared Lentz.

Lentz, Valley City’s 6-foot, 4-inch senior quarterback vying with 5-foot, 11-inch senior tight end Ben Baasch and Braden Liljenquist for Homecoming King, went 5-of-7 for 47 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for a one-yard score in a 39-degree, 25-mile-per-hour-windy 39-13 win that featured a 24-0 halftime lead at Kindred’s Jerlow Field.

Location of Community Night Out Changed

The Mercy Hospital and EMS Community Night Out set for Sunday will now be held at the Valley City Eagles Club from 4-6 p.m. The original location of Chautauqua Park was changed due to cold weather.

The free event will feature food, fun and education, wraps up the many block parties held in Valley City this year.

Free Skating in VC Sunday

The Valley City Optimist Club will hold a free roller skating event on Sunday, Oct. 5, to kick-off its regular open skating season at the Valley City Recreation Center.

VC Students Get Dakota-Grown Lunch

North Star leader Valley City State (2-0 North Star, 4-1 overall) look to expand their win streak to four as they return to Lokken Stadium for Saturday’s 1 p.m. Homecoming against North Star newcomer Waldorf College (1-2 North Star, 2-4 overall) of Forest City, Iowa.

Viking 6-foot, 3-inch, 201-pound sophomore quarterback Kurtis Walls of Laveen, Ariz., leads the youthful Viking attack with 1,265 passing yards, 118 rush yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Sanborn Man Arrested After Second Accident in Less Than 17 Hours

The driver of a semi that closed part of Interstate 94 Wednesday after striking a bridge rail was later arrested for for DUI and possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia after a pick-up truck he was driving struck a telephone pole in Valley City.
