Valley City 14U Softball Update

Valley City 14U No. 1 split with West Fargo in Casselton, N.D. on Monday, taking the first game 11-10 with Noelle Thompson’s big triple driving in two runs for the lead in the top of the seventh. McKenna Taylor pitched the win.

Kacee White picked up the loss in the second game, a 6-2 loss cut short in the fourth inning because it was too dark. White and Mackenzie Pederson scored in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 3-2, but West Fargo pulled away and Valley City’s bats could not get going again.

Valley City 14U is at State in Grand Forks, N.D. this weekend.

Legion Post 60 Swept at Wahpeton

Legion Post 60 ventured to Wahpeton on Thursday, falling 2-1 in the League game and 11-0 in the hitless five-inning non-League finisher.

Post 60 scored a run in the top of the sixth League inning, but Whapeton answered with two in the home half and shut Post 60 out of the seventh.

Dalton Ondracek and Chase Carpenter landed two hits in the contest.

Jesse Johnson pitched 5.1 innings for 13 first-pitch strikes and set down four batters. Austin Berg worked the final two outs of the fifth for a first-pitch strike and a strikeout.

BREAKING: Malaysian Plane Shot Down Near Russian Border

Ukrainian rebels shot down a Malaysian jet carrying 295 people over eastern Ukraine near its border with Russia, a Ukrainian Interior Ministry official said. Peter Cook reports on “Market Makers.”

Food Truck Open in VC

July 17, 2014

A food truck is now open in Valley City, and it's set up at the Dakota Plains lot at 151 Ninth Avenue Northwest. Sandtastic Sandwiches and Catering, owned by Kenny and Mary McCarty, opened Tuesday, and the business will be set up at its current site Monday through Friday 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The pair started their business a month-and-a-half-ago but set up at its current location Tuesday.

Sex Offender Registered in VC

July 17, 2014

High risk sex offender Daniel Kelder is currently residing at 459 Fifth Street Southwest in Valley City.

Kelder, 43, is a white male, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is five feet ten inches tall and weighs 270 pounds.

Kelder was convicted of gross sexual imposition in 2012. He fondled a five-year-old girl who was visiting her father, who was staying in the same house as Kelder. Kelder also had the girl touch his genitals. He is considered at high-risk to offend again.

Class B Girls Basketball All-Stars Get Even

Shiloh Christian guard Gabrielle Wilkinson and the 38th Lions Class B All-Stars avenged Tuesday’s 79-68 overtime loss, in which they squandered a 61-56 lead with 1:35 left in regulation at the Bismarck Civic Center, with Wednesday’s 59-51 win at the Fargo Civic Center.

Class B led 29-26 at halftime and encountered a familiar situation up 51-42 with 2:30 to go, but this time the edge was enough.

Nix, Lyter Miss Junior Gold Bowling Cut

Lexia Nix, 11, of Valley City, N.D., bowled a 421 on Wednesday to miss the Girls U12 cut at 83rd in the Junior Gold Bowling Championships in Buffalo, N.Y. Matthew Lyter, 15, of Sanborn, N.D., turned in a 676 to fall short of the Boys U15 Top 50 qualifiers at 184th.

Nix rolled a 107 in Wednesday’s Game 9, an 86 in Game 10, a 110 in Game 11 and a 118 in Game 12 for a three-day total of 1,349, a three-day 112.42 average and a three-day -1,051 differential.
