VCSU Students Approve Fee Increase to Help Fund Wellness Center

Sixty-four percent of Valley City State University students who voted approved a student fee increase to help fund the operating expenses of the proposed Valley City Health, Wellness and Physical Education Center.

All students will pay a fee each semester based on their credit load, VCSU Marketing Director Greg Vanney said. The fee will be in the range of $10 to $12 per credit hour, capped at 12 credits.

Keith Baumgartner brought in this photograph of the 1961 Oriska High School Basketball team, which took fourth place in the North Dakota Class C Basketball Tournament. The team included Eugene Baumgartner, Keith Baumgartner, Kent Baumgartner, James Heinze, Duane Hoffmeyer, Palmer Holden, Robert Paeper, Richard Pommerer, Richard Thilmony and Thomas Trautman. Coach was Lloyd "Fred" Fandrich and manager was Larry Kappel.

Jayda Haugen led Barnes County North with 24 assists, 11 digs and three aces at home Monday night against Enderlin, but Jacquelyn McCleary’s 31 assists helped the Eagles hang on for a 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-17) win.

Lexi Rose had 29 digs and an assist for the Bison, Sam Wieland 16 digs and seven kills, Laura Limesand 15 digs, three aces and two assists, Allison Klein 13 digs, Abby Undem 12 kills and a block, Shelby Brown five kills and a block, and Hannah Willson five kills.

Blue Team Wins Hi-Liner Challenge

April Berntson realized a life-long dream of ending up on the Hi-Liner Challenge’s winning side Wednesday as she and the Blue defeated the White, 41-32 by virtue of combined times, at Valley City’s National Fish Hatchery, a final tune-up before Oct. 25’s State Meet in Minot.

“A good time was had by all, but not so much for the disgruntled White Team,” head coach Brian Engelhard said.

Crime Ring Hits VC

October 15, 2014

A recent incident involving stolen checks prompted the Valley City Police Department, along with the FBI, to warn residents to not leave valuables in their vehicles and to keep unoccupied vehicles locked.

Earlier this week, tellers at the Valley City U.S. Bank recovered a stolen check and I.D. when suspects in a multi-state rash of vehicle break-ins attempted to cash the check at the drive-up window.
