CP Rail Proposes Moving Approach

Barnes County elected officials are hopeful a plan by CP Rail to move an approach at the Maryvale Convent on River Road 800 feet west cold make it easier for traffic to get in and out of the convent over railroad tracks.

VC School Board Opposes Guns in School Bill

March 18, 2015

The Valley City Public School board passed a motion Monday to not support North Dakota House Bill 1195, which would allow a specially-trained individual to carry a concealed firearm in a school. School board member Rick Ross voted against the motion made by Mike Callahan during Monday's regular board meeting.

Energy Beet Ethanol: Learning Farmer's Needs

North Dakota-based Green Vision Group is considering building a beet-sugar-to-ethanol plant in Barnes County, and is in the process of working out a major hurdle – finding energy beet growers. But growers are reluctant to make a commitment to producing a new crop until they know there will be a plant to buy the beets. A meeting held Tuesday in Valley City could bring growers and ethanol producers closer to understand each other's needs and intents.

Junior High Drama Presents 'Surfs Up!'

How can you top "You Can’t Take it with You" and "Scared Silly," both which were produced by Valley City High School Drama last fall? "Surfs Up!" is this year’s junior high musical that will surely be the perfect play to finish up the year.

The musical will come to the VCHS stage Thursday, March 19 through Saturday, March 21 at 7:30 every evening.

Police Seek Help Locating Hit-and-Run Suspect

March 17, 2015

Valley City police are asking for the public's help in locating a suspect involved in a hit-and-run overnight Thursday.

At about 3 a.m. Friday, the hit-and-run was reported in the 600 block of Third Avenue Northeast in Valley City. A black 2010 Chevrolet Impala, which was legally parked, was struck by a white 1992-98 Pontiac Grand Am, according to Valley City Police Department Chief Fred Thompson in a media release. The owner of the Impala, who was asleep at the time, was awakened by the crash.
