Valley City Babe Ruth player Jacob Miller showed plenty of tenacity in Monday’s double header split with Oakes.
As his team played the first game, a 4-2 loss, he donned the catcher’s gear and took his spot behind the plate for all seven innings in 90 degree weather.
He followed it by switching battery positions for game two, where he pitched all four innings and scored two runs in a 5-1 win.
In both instances, coach Lance Lukes was pleased as the team readies for the District 6 tournament later this month in Steele.
A Valley City woman who went missing last week has made contact with her mother.
Amber Glatt, 22, a Valley City State University student who has been missing since July 4, called her mother from a pay phone late Monday evening. It was the first time anyone had heard from her in nearly a week.
“It’s a huge relief,” Glatt’s Mother, Amy Rines, said late Monday night. “I will see her tomorrow. The airports are closed tonight or else we’d be going tonight.”
Glatt has had bouts of reoccurring amnesia since suffering a head injury in 2010.

There isn’t much that can change a baseball game’s momentum more than a big home run.
But after allowing a two-run game-tying dinger to deep centerfield in the third inning of the team’s second game with Lidgerwood Friday at Charlie Brown Memorial Field, Valley City Post 60 pitcher Austen Meyer was determined to keep his chin up.
“You’ve just got to come back and get the next guy,” Meyer said.
Instead, he and the rest of his team responded in the best way possible.
JAMESTOWN — As Shar Berns’ husband looked her in the eyes and told her that her best friend, a woman she had come to love in the past eight years, was dead, Berns could hardly muster a response.
“We were supposed to have lunch next Thursday. It just, it just doesn’t seem real,” she said.
Her friend, Allison Deutscher, 36, along with her husband Aaron, 34, and 18-month-old daughter Brielle, of West Fargo, were killed Friday evening in a head-on collision on Interstate 94 west of Jamestown.

LAKE ASHTABULA, N.D. – Several dozen people looked quizzically to the sky on Saturday as a small airplane, flying very low, coasted over the lake’s landings and campgrounds. The plane was just another fiber in a slowly unraveling rope that is tying together a very unusual case in Valley City.
Amber Marcia Glatt, a 22-year-old Valley City State University student, was reported missing at 10:10 p.m., July 4, by her boyfriend Andy Mushet.
It happened again this week. That thing the moon does. It gets plump and full. That big, protective moon sat perched shining life onto the dark, provocative night. I sat under it looking up wondering what’s it’s like shining light onto the dark, provocative night from way up there. At that point I smiled not just at the moon protecting me –but at eternity. I’m certain that plump, golden moon disappeared until next time knowing it had affected me so.
