Hi-Liners' 2nd Half Rally Not Enough vs. West Fargo

December 19, 2012

When the Valley City High School basketball team left the floor for halftime of its 65-54 loss to West Fargo, things seemed somewhat bleak. The Hi-Liners trailed 38-19, allowing double the points they had scored.
But that didn't stop the team from making it a game, as the Hi-Liners scored 13 points in the first six minutes of the second half and limited the Packers' opportunities to get the game within reach.
"The kids came out and played extremely hard in the second half and played defense and we were able to make it a game," VCHS coach Scott Hurlimann said.

The Barnes County Wildlife Federation is searching for a new place to put an indoor archery range, which is currently located in the City Auditorium or “the Audi.”

The range, located in the basement, and includes 3-D targets and allows archers to shoot from 20 yards and 10 yards indoors. Soon, though, they’ll have to find a new place to shoot because the building is being sold by the City of Valley City.

VCHS Girls Top Maple Valley in OT

December 18, 2012

For the first 40 minutes of Valley City High School girls basketball team's 63-53 win over Maple Valley Tuesday at the Hi-Liner Activity Center, the Hi-Liners had little trouble finding a good shot.
But, for whatever reason, the team's numerous open looks wouldn't make the short trip off the backboard and through the hoop.
"We had good shot selection and good shooting opportunities the entire game, but it took us a while to get where we could consistently hit some," Valley City coach Jim McDaniel said.

LLM Takes 3rd at BCT

December 17, 2012

All throughout the Barnes County Tournament, the Milnor High School basketball team brought a size element that tested every team the Bison matched up against.
Even though LaMoure/Litchville-Marion lacked the size, they played their game, pulling away late in a 61-51 win over Milnor in the third place game of the Barnes County Tournament.
It ended what LLM coach Darren Thielges called a “fantastic tournament” for the team.

Haseleu's 3 gets Maple Valley Past VCHS for 3rd Straight Year

December 17, 2012

For the last three seasons, the boys edition of the Barnes County Basketball Tournament has come down to two teams — Valley City High School and Maple Valley High School.
But not even Maple Valley coach Jay Kocka would have predicted that Saturday's 47-46 win for the Raiders at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse would have been that close.
"Give Valley City credit. With their zone they ran, we didn't attack too much but we hung around and gave ourselves a shot," he said.
