VC School Board to Begin Search for Superintendent This Fall

The Valley City Public School Board will begin looking for a superintendent this fall. Board members agreed at Monday's regular meeting to hire the North Dakota School Boards Association to help with the search.

Home Sweet Home: CHI Health at Home Holds Fundraiser

Valley City Times-Record Publisher J. Reed Anderson, accompanied by Donna Reign of Reign Realty, broke out his Italian as the entertainment at the first Home Sweet Home fundraiser hosted by CHI Health at Home Friday at the Dacotah Pavilion in Chautauqua Park. CHI Health at Home provides hospice and in-home health care; the fundraising event, which included a silent auction, was the first of a planned annual event.

BC OKs Relay at Courthouse

Barnes County has given the Barnes County Relay for Life organization permission to conduct the 2015 relay on the Barnes County Courthouse lawn on June 19.

McDonald's Nixes Restaurant Site

The McDonald's Restaurant chain has decided to not build a McDonald's off Fourth Avenue and Winter Show Road, said Brian Weidendorf, spokesman for site owner Land and Lease Development of Hinckley, Minn., on Friday.

Valley City City Administrator David Schelkoph said Friday that his understanding is, “McDonald's pulled out."

When Mark Compson's sister Brenda was diagnosed with breast cancer, he shaved his head in solidarity. Now Brenda is going through her second round of chemo and Mark is doing something a bit different to show his support.

A self-proclaimed car guy, Mark, with the help of a group of friends and family members, readied a Dodge pickup which was entered in the North Dakota Winter Show pickup truck pulls driven first by a family friend, Linda Sorsnson, who is a breast cancer survivor and then by Mark and Brenda's younger sister Lori Mennis.

Mom Starts Scholarship in Memory of Her Daughter

Stacy Olson of Moorhead, Minn., has started a scholarship and is planning a benefit for it in memory of her daughter Miranda Stephens who was killed in a car accident in September last year.

The event will be held Saturday, May 23 at the Valley City Eagles Club. While Olson is still sorting out details, she is planning an all-day event ending with a dance featuring band Mix Theory until 2 a.m.

The benefit will feature games and activities, such as carnival games for kids, a bake sale, an ice cream stand, a taco stand and a silent auction and raffle.

American Legion District 1 Meeting in VC

March 20, 2015

Valley City's American Legion Club will host the April 9 First District spring meeting of area posts and their auxiliaries, said Scott Crump, Commander of Valley City's American Legion Post No. 60.

Valley City will host American Legion posts from southeastern North Dakota, including clubs in Barnes, Cass, Griggs, Steele and Trail counties.
