A North Star No. 2 seed may still be in the cards for Valley City State.

Returning to Graichen Gymnasium for their home finale against conference rival Dickinson State Wednesday, Kaitlyn Heuring, Emily Plowman, Stephanie Miller and Jaycee George served up three aces each on the way to a 3-1 (25-16, 24-26, 25-20) Viking win that sweeps the season series, puts the Vikings back at .500 in the conference and guarantees them at least the fourth NSAA Tournament seed that plays at the third seed in Nov. 8’s first round.

Jamestown Movie Theater Owners Buy Valley City Theater

The owners of the Bison 6 Cinema in Jamestown have bought the Valley City movie theater from Jeremy and Wanda Zako. Lyman and Cory Keim plan to open Valley Twin Cinema, formerly called Cinema Flix, Friday, Nov. 7.

BC Receives Many Absentee Ballots

As of Tuesday, North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger said his office had received 37,763 absentee and vote by mail ballots of 65,769 that the office had sent out. The story is in the Wednesday issue of the Times-Record.

City to Address Zoning at Public Meeting

A public input meeting focusing on zoning in Valley City will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Because most of Valley City was "blanket" zoned in the early 1970s, the city was full of inconsistencies. More in Wednesday's Times-Record.

Warrant Wednesday: Nicholas Rittenhouse

Each week, local law enforcement asks for help from the community in locating individuals who have warrants out for their arrest.

Nicholas Curtis Rittenhouse, 26, is wanted by the Barnes County Sheriff's Office on a bench warrant for failure to appear for an order to show cause hearing for the original charge of driving with a suspended or revoked, a class B misdemeanot.

Rittenhouse is a white male with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is six feet, one inch tall and weighs 170 pounds.

Claire Olson, Reagan Ingstad and Valley City, winless in their last six Eastern Dakota conference matches entering Monday’s home contest against Grand Forks Central, regained their sea legs with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-18) sweep to take the season series after having swept the Knights, 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-16), in Sept. 11’s road contest.

BREAKING: Police Catch Wanted Man in Possible Stolen Vehicle in VC

Local law enforcement arrested a man believed to be wanted and driving a stolen vehicle Tuesday afternoon at the westbound exit 292 in Valley City.

The driver of the vehicle, a 2006 Honda Accord, was reported as being involved in a gas drive-off in Casselton and was intercepted in Valley City.

The driver was reported to be a mental subject who may have been en-route to Witchita, Kan. with multiple weapons in the vehicle. It was also reported that he may have been involved in an attempted murder.

Wellness Center Costs, Fees Unveiled at Meeting

The proposed Valley City Health, Wellness and Physical Education Center should be able to operate on its own revenue and membership fees would be similar to monthly membership fees at the current Valley City Recreation Center Fitness Center, according to planners at a public meeting Monday.
According to consultants from ORB Consulting, first-year revenues for the proposed facility, at an estimated $836,389 – coming from contributions, membership dues, sales and program and other fees – would offset estimated operating expenses of $812,729.

Bridge City Dentistry Buying Halloween Candy to Send to Troops Overseas

Those who find a few too many sweet treats in their Halloween bags this year — or those who want to share that sugary goodness with troops and children overseas — can sell it to Bridge City Dentistry, which will send the candy overseas.

The program, called Operation Gratitude, sends care packages to soldiers overseas, including Halloween candy this time of year, Bridge City Dentistry Administrative Assistant Bonnie Kramer said.
