CLARIFICATION: Sex Offender's Address Not Verified

An article in the Tuesday, July 9 edition of the Times-Record stated that convicted sex offender Allan Joseph Cook, 35, resides at 305 Fourth Street SE in Valley City. This information has not yet been verified by the Valley City Police Department.
We will provide updated information as we receive it from the VCPD.
The Times-Record regrets the error.

Storage Unit Break-Ins

Police are investigating several possible break-ins at a Valley City Storage facility.
According to Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson, a patrol officer noticed an unlocked storage unit late last week at a facility in the Valley City Industrial Park. Further investigation revealed three additional units that had been broken into.
It is unclear what, if any, items were taken.
Anyone with information regarding the break-ins should contact the Valley City Police Department at (701) 845-3110.

Monday and Thursday Farmers Market Set

The first Valley City Farmers Market of the 2013 season has been set for 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday in the Shopko parking lot.
The Monday market will be in the parking lot at the Rosebud Visitor's Center, said Market Manager Norma Voidal.

Flower Show Set for Monday

Valley City is ablaze with color after Mother Nature's generous rain this spring. The Sheyenne Valley Garden Club encourages gardeners to "come share that color at the 30th annual Sheyenne Valley Garden Club Flower Show."
Club president Darlene Mueller said the show will be held Monday, July 15 at the Valley City Eagles Club. Judging will take place until 4 p.m., at which time the exhibitors and public are invited to view the show.
"Anyone is encouraged to exhibit their favorite bloom," she said.

Area Flight Medic Grounded

July 8, 2013

Angel Air Care flew its last flight out of Bismarck in May, grounding flight paramedic Holly Neuberger of Valley City. The 9-1-1 dispatcher, paramedic and teacher began flying in 2009, after intense training on safety, helicopter operations and survival.

VC Vet Hospital Adds 2

July 8, 2013

The Valley City Veterinary Hospital has added two new doctors – Tom Arnold and Laura Axvig.
Both veterinarians started at the local animal hospital in June, said Dr. Bart Fischer. Fischer said the new doctors join he and Dr. Jennifer Fischer.
Fischer said both doctors are new graduates of veterinary colleges, and are employees of the practice.

Doctor Could Rescind Resignation

Four Valley City Sanford Clinic doctors have resigned their Mercy Hospital privileges as of Aug. 1 due to changes at the hospital making it more difficult to serve patients, said Dr. Misty Anderson Wednesday.
The four doctors who gave notice June 24 were Genevieve Govan, Dave Hochhalter, Anderson and James Buhr.

Grant May Help Rural Residents Get Connected

A U.S. Department of Agriculture grant may be the biggest remaining thing standing between rural Valley City and broadband Internet connections.
Tom Steinolfson, network manager for BEK Communications, asked for and received support from the Barnes County Commission Tuesday in obtaining a USDA Broadband Community Connect Grant with which to build a rural broad band network.

Possible Fix for Health Department Space Woes

The City-County Health District needs more space, which they may soon have. During a regular meeting of the Barnes County Commission on Tuesday, commissioners agreed to consider purchasing the First Community Credit Union building on Fourth Street in Valley for the City-County Health District.
