BC 4-H Running Critter Corral

February 11, 2015

Barnes County 4-H members will be involved in many ways at this year's North Dakota Winter Show, including at the Critter Corral, an activity Barnes County Young people have participated in for “at least 20 years,” said Susan Milender, the Barnes County extension agent who heads the county 4-H program.

BCA Hopes for Successful 2015

Barnes County and the Barnes County Ambulance service have signed a contract for 2015, and Scott Miller, who has been involved with the service since 1985, is hoping for a successful year.

Wyatt Sabinash, Abby Brown Named Snow Week King, Queen

Valley City High School held a pep fest to kick off Snow Week Monday evening. The festivities began with a performance by the pep band, cheerleaders and dance team firing up Valley City with some Hi-Liner spirit. Following, athletes participating in Hi-Liner winter sports were introduced. Finally, the Snow Week king and queen were crowned.

Extension Offers Classes on Parenting Teens

For the first time in several years, the Barnes County office of the North Dakota State University Extension Office will offer a series of classes for parents of teens and pre-teens called Active Parenting of Teens.

Hi-Lites Raise $25K to Compete Nationally in Orlando

The Valley City Hi-Lites dance team will participate in a national competition next month thanks to the generosity of the community which helped the team raise $25,000 in just a few days.

This Year's 'Green Prom' Aims to Re-use and Conserve

It is the goal of Valley City High School prom director Carol Foth and the 16-member junior prom committee that this year's green prom will be just as beautiful — if not more beautiful — than proms past by spending as little as possible.

Railroads Always Important to BC

Barnes County has had at least 10 railroads since Valley City was first surveyed by the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1850, said Wes Anderson, curator of the Barnes County Historical Society Museum.

BC Hiring FT Dispatch Coord

Barnes County commissioners have decided to hire a full-time dispatch coordinator for $48,000 per year, or $67,000 including benefits, said John Froelich, the county commissioner who proposed the new position at a Tuesday meeting. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.

Sheriff's Dept. May Soon Need More Deputies

On Tuesday, Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin brought up the possibility that deputies be added to the department once a 2,000-person man camp opens near Spiritwood, Stutsman County, close to the Barnes County border.
