Valley City's Dairy Queen joined other Dairy Queen stores across the nation all day Monday offering free small vanilla ice cream cones to celebrate 75 years of business.

Police Seek Help Locating Hit-and-Run Suspect

Valley City police are asking for the public's help in locating a suspect involved in a hit-and-run overnight Thursday.

At about 3 a.m. Friday, the hit-and-run was reported in the 600 block of Third Avenue Northeast in Valley City. A black 2010 Chevrolet Impala, which was legally parked, was struck by a white 1992-98 Pontiac Grand Am, according to Valley City Police Department Chief Fred Thompson in a media release. The owner of the Impala, who was asleep at the time, was awakened by the crash.

Keep the Fires Burning, but Only Where Intended

Valley City Fire Chief Gary Retterath warns residents to be careful when burning outdoors.

Saturday, crews spent over an hour fighting a grass fire that burned in a pasture south of Valley City. While there was no danger of any structures succumbing to the fire said Retterath, the potential is there, especially on windy days.

Tolna Dam Springs Leak

A five-foot hole in the Tolna Dam spillway with water flowing will likely end up sending Devils Lake Water into the Sheyenne River, according to the North Dakota State Water Commission.

Relay for Life Hosting Father-Daughter Dance

Barnes County Relay for Life is holding a Father-Daughter Dance on Friday, March 27 at the Hi-Liner Activity Center. Doors open at 6:15 p.m., social begins at 6:30 p.m. and the dance will be 7 to 9 p.m.

Former VC Resident in Amazon Writing Competition

"Lord's Kingdom," a novel by St. Catherine's High School graduate, David Slone, was accepted into a selective writing competition sponsored by Amazon/Kindle. Fans and readers can nominate his novel during a 30-day period ending March 22.

Slone's book can be nominated on his Kindle Scout website, Kindle Scout is a reader-powered publishing company for new, never-before-published books.

Ft. Ransom Gets New Manager

As of Monday, Tyler Modlin goes solo as manager of Fort Ransom State Park.
Modlin, who began working march 1, served as co-manager with former manager John Kwapinski from his arrival until Friday, Kwapinski's final day at the park.
