Where Are They Now? Leitner: Politics Is in His Blood

Phil Leitner knew in high school he wanted to be in politics, and 15 years after graduation that hasn't changed.
Since graduating from Valley City High School in 1999, Leitner became a Barnes County Commissioner at 29 and doesn't plan to stop there.

BC OKs Job Description

Barnes County commissioners voted 5-0 at a Tuesday meeting to approve the job description for a new communications supervisor, proposed by Emergency Management Director Kimberly Franklin. More in Friday's issue of the Times-Record.

VCPD Swears in New Officer

Andrew Eisenschenk was sworn in Monday by Valley City Mayor Bob Werkhoven as the Valley City Police Department's newest officer.
Eiscnschenk, a native of St. Cloud, Minn, who joined the VCPD on Nov. 1, was formerly a police officer in Newtown, N.D.

Donations, Volunteers Needed for Community Christmas Eve Dinner

The annual community Christmas Eve dinner, held Tuesday, Dec. 24 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church dining hall, isn't just for members of the church — it's open to all who would like a traditional holiday feast of ham, turkey and side dishes, and company on Christmas Eve. Volunteers and funds are needed to keep the ritual going for its 42nd year.

Hi-Liners No. 4 in EDC Volleyball Tourney

Lady Hi-Liner volleyball narrowly swept West Fargo, 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-23) on Tuesday night to ultimately earn the fourth Eastern Dakota Conference Tournament spot, which guarantees Valley City home matches throughout the double-elimination tournament, when the regular season officially ended Thursday night.

Head Lice in VC School

Between 15 and 20 students at Valley City's Jefferson Elementary School were found to have head lice in checks Wednesday and Thursday by City-County Health nurses and volunteers, said Principal Troy Miller.

Rollover Injures Wimbledon Woman

November 7, 2013

A woman was injured in a rollover on a gravel road two miles southeast of Wimbledon Wednesday.
Darian Krueger, 19, of Wimbledon, suffered non-life-threatening injuries after the vehicle she was a passenger in rolled at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said in a press release. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

Theft at Clausen Springs

November 7, 2013

The main campground at Clausen Springs was the site of a burglary earlier this week.
On Sunday, caretaker Bev Anderson reported the theft of at least $2,000 in hand and power tools from a garage in the campground.

VCPS Hires Nutrition Services Director

School, Teachers Still at Impasse

The Valley City Public Schools and the Valley City Education Association are still at impasse in contract negotiations.
During a hearing Wednesday at which the entities met to discuss recommendations from a state fact-finding commission regarding teacher's pay increases, payment of accumulated sick leave days upon teachers' retirement and the establishment of a health insurance committee to review the district's self-funded health insurance program, the school board and the teacher's association agreed on all of the recommendations as written in the fact-finder's report.
