Red Kettle Drive Begins Friday

November 25, 2013

Barnes County's Salvation Army annual red kettle drive begins this week on Black Friday. Organizers hope to raise $40,000 this year, $10,000 more than the goal last year, but still less than the record-breaking amount raised last year.
This year's fundraising campaign begins Friday, Nov. 29, and lasts until Christmas Eve. The familiar red kettles will be set up at Leevers Foods, Marketplace Foods and Shopko in Valley City.

BC Agrees to Add Regulatory Funds

Barnes County has agreed to increase its 2014 truck regulatory contribution by $5,000, providing the other three counties paying for the program also add $5,000 each. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.

No Fish Hatchery Closures This Year

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Nov. 15 announced that it does not intend to close any of the nation’s national fish hatcheries in the current fiscal year. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.

Hart, Kawasaki Swim at State

November 25, 2013

Valley City junior Annie Hart and sophomore Camille Kawasaki swam with the Jamestown Blue Jays Girls' Swim & Dive team in Grand Forks on Nov. 16, at which Hart became an All-State First-Team selection, was named the Nov. 18-22 Jamestown Optimist Athlete of the Week and received All-Western Dakota Conference honors.

Hi-Liner Football Awards Announced

Valley City football gathered for an end-of-the-season awards ceremony Sunday night at the Hi-Liner Activities Center, during which Head Coach Scott Roehrich and the Hi-Liner coaching staff announced yearly honors.

President Shirley to Present VCSU ‘State of the University’ Address Monday

November 22, 2013

President Steven W. Shirley of Valley City State University will present the “State of the University” address Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. in Vangstad Auditorium on the VCSU campus.

The annual address will highlight 2012–13 accomplishments, as well as information on campus initiatives for 2013–14.

The event is open to the public.

VCSU Officials Outline Projects

Wednesday morning Valley City State University officials told legislators visiting the campus about local campus issues and VCSU's science, technology, Engineering and Mathematics Initiatives.

Meeting Set On Proposed Voting Change

Area Churches Giving Thanksgiving Food Baskets to Low-Income Families

Three Valley City churches are teaming up to offer Thanksgiving food baskets for low-income families in the area.
Faith Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church and Our Savior's Lutheran Church have 60 baskets to fill with traditional Thanksgiving food Friday evening and deliver to families Saturday.

Students Stuff-a-Truck

November 21, 2013

Students From Valley City Public Schools stuffed a Coca Cola truck Wednesday with non-perishable food items for the Barnes County Food Pantry. In all, students collected about 3,100 items including about 2,689 food items and about $600 in cash.
