Reiner, No. 1 Saint Mary's Roll Central Dakota

Bismarck St. Mary’s 6-foot, 165-pound senior tailback Dillon Reiner ran 47 times for 211 yards and six touchdowns against AA West rival Central Dakota in Cooperstown on Saturday to give the No. 1 Saints a 42-12 win.

Dakota Straub’s one-yard touchdown run put the Titans ahead 6-0 in the first quarter before Reiner scored from six yards out to lead 7-6 after a quarter.

Reiner ran for touchdowns of five and four yards in the second quarter and St. Mary’s led 21-6 at halftime.

RUNNING DOWN A DREAM: Valley City Faces Central Cass for 4th Seed Friday

It’s do or die Friday night at Hanna Field when third-place Valley City hosts fifth-place Central Cass for the fourth and final AA East playoff spot.

Nate Rodriguez carried 17 times for 48 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Saturday night’s penultimate game at No. 2 Fargo Shanley, but senior running back Daniel Stasch, senior wide receiver Trevian Fort and the host Deacons denied Valley City a playoff-clinching win, 40-13.

“[Shanley]’s a dang good team, and we’re not so dang bad either,” said Hi-Liner head coach Scott Roehrich, eager for Friday’s one-game season.

BC Man Arrested on Weapons Charges

Austin Edward Henne, 38, of rural Spiritwood, was arrested in Barnes County Wednesday on a federal warrant.

Henne, who was wanted by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms on weapons charges, was arrested by the Barnes County Sheriff's Office and charged Thursday in U.S. District Court for possession of a firearm or a weapon by a felon. Henne, who has a criminal history including prohibited possession of firearms, criminal conspiracy and burglary, is currently in federal custody.

Girl Scouts Release Pink Balloons for Breast Cancer

Valley City Girl Scouts and CHI Mercy Health employees released pink balloons Thursday afternoon in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Week.

VCSU Students Approve Fee Increase to Help Fund Wellness Center

Sixty-four percent of Valley City State University students who voted approved a student fee increase to help fund the operating expenses of the proposed Valley City Health, Wellness and Physical Education Center.

All students will pay a fee each semester based on their credit load, VCSU Marketing Director Greg Vanney said. The fee will be in the range of $10 to $12 per credit hour, capped at 12 credits.
