Social Services, IT Moving

April 10, 2015

Barnes County Social Services and Jason Thiel, Barnes County IT director, will both get some of the space soon to be vacated by the City County Health District after it moves into its new building, the former Valley City First Community Credit Union building.

Barnes County Commissioners decided to have Social Services take over room 102, and Thiel's department take over room 101 in the Barnes County Courthouse building.

Burchill New Assistant Fire Chief

Ron Burchill was recently appointed assistant chief of the Valley City Fire Department.

Burchill joined the VCFD in 1980 as a firefighter. He went on to become an emergency medical technician and a rescue diver. He was promoted to lieutenant of the ladder truck. As people retired, Burchill became a captain and then assistant chief replacing Daryl Stensland, who retired.

Valley City's First Community Credit Union has a new branch manager. Nathan Hillmer was promoted from agriculture and commercial loan officer to branch manager Feb. 8.

One Injured in VC Accident

April 10, 2015

A man was injured in a one-vehicle accident that caused damage at a Valley City business.

Just before 1 a.m. Thursday, Dakota A. Zaun, 20, of Valley City, was traveling westbound on West Main Street when the Hyundai he was driving left the roadway and hit a sign pole in the Northwest Industries parking lot, according to a media release from VCPD Chief Fred Thompson. Upon hitting the pole, the vehicle's engine caught fire and was extinguished by the Valley City Fire Department.

The Valley City High School softball team, their coaches and the Valley City Public Schools athletic director were on hand Tuesday for a regular Valley City Commission meeting where a discussion was held regarding whether the city's old lime pit should become a community flower garden and orchard or a new softball field.
