ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) â Gov. Mark Dayton, political leaders and the Minnesota Vikings unveiled a proposal Thursday to build a $975 million stadium for the team in downtown Minneapolis and called for quick action on the plan before the Legislature adjourns this spring.
The plan would put the new building nearly on top of the current Metrodome site. It calls for $398 million from the state, $150 million from the city and $427 million from the Vikings for upfront construction costs.
The Valley City State University Vikings will face the No. 3 ranked College of the Ozarks (Mo.) in the opening round of the NAIA Division II Womenâs Basketball Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Vikings and Lady Bobcats will square off on the second day of opening round action on Thursday, March 8 at 1:45 pm.
College of the Ozarks (29-3) won the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC) tournament to earn an automatic bid to Sioux City. The Bobcats are making their 18th National Tournament appearance and have a 26-17 overall record in the tournament.
As far as Valley City State University baseball coach Casey Olney is concerned, his team can match up with almost anybody on its schedule.
âWe have enough talent to compete with the teams weâre playing against,â Olney said. âWe just need to play well.â
The Vikings started their season last weekend with a four-game series at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis. The Vikings lost a pair of games to University of Minnesota â Crookston and split two with St. Johnâs (Minn.) University.
âWe started 1-3 which is disappointing,â Olney said. âWe just need to play a little bit better.â
The Valley City High School girls basketball team extended its season Saturday with a 69-65 win over Devils Lake in a play-in for the Eastern Dakota Conference regional basketball tournament.
But Mother Nature had other plans for the tournament, which was originally scheduled to start last night.
Due to incoming storms Tuesday night, the tournamentâs opening round Tuesday was postponed. That included the Hi-Linersâ tournament opening game at West Fargo, which was rescheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday in West Fargo.

But in Mondayâs 58-29 regional qualifying win over Litchville-Marion/Montpelier at the Class B District 5 tournament at the Jamestown Civic Center, the priority was getting the game going from the beginning.
âNumber one and two today were fast start,â Hooey said. âThatâs something we havenât done so far in this district tournament.â
The Valley City State University softball team lost its final two games at the St. Cloud State University Dome Tournament Sunday in St. Cloud, Minn.
NCAA Division II programs Augustana College and Upper Iowa University beat Valley City State 10-4 and 8-3.
Augusta College hit four home runs en route to a 10-4 victory over Valley City State. Two-run home runs in the bottom of the first and second innings gave the No. 7 ranked team in NCAA Division II to a 4-2 lead they never lost.
The Valley City State University womens basketball team played its way into the championship game at the Association of Independent Institutions conference tournament in Madison, S.D.
The Vikings clinched an NAIA national tournament berth, but fell just short of a conference championship.
In the A.I.I. championship game, a slow start led to a big second half comeback before the No. 4 seeded Vikings ran out of steam in a 52-50 overtime loss to No. 3 seed Cal State San Marco.
FARGO â It's always hard to tell how a team will take a loss, especially a large one.
But Maple Valley High School girls basketball coach Jeff Miller didn't notice his team getting too down after Saturday's 75-37 loss to Kindred in the semifinals of the Class B District 2 tournament at the Fargo Civic Center.
"These girls are pretty resilient," he said. "They'll shrug it off. They've already shrugged it off."
Wednesday was a snow day for many in the region, as 3 to 8 inches of snow fell from a storm that stretched to the southern Great Plains.
The National Weather Service in Grand Forks reported just under 4 inches fell north of Valley City at the Bald Hill Dam beginning late Tuesday evening. That accumulation added to the 6.6 inches that had already fallen over the weekend.
âEverything is pretty much winding down; there might be some flurries but thatâs about it,â said NWS meteorologist Brad Hopkins on Wednesday afternoon.
Area youth will soon have a chance to string up their bows and channel their inner Robin Hood. The Valley City Parks and Recreation Department is once again offering a youth archery class for kids ages 10 to 18 in the basement of the City Auditorium.
âWeâve got a 10-yard range for beginners and a 20-yard range for more advanced shooters,â said Neil Pederson, Barnes County Wildlife Club member and Archery Club Chairman. âWeâve been running (the range) for about 4 years now.â
