Raise your hand if you knew my mom Pat (Kranz) Larson. She was born in 1930. That’s an important piece of trivia. I think that particular era explains what I’m about to share with you. She escaped her Electric Mobility Scooter and I’m certain was gifted working legs in the sky once she arrived. She’s in Heaven now. Most of you only knew my mom from her scooter days after she had her stroke. She called it her Cadillac. She was the woman who would drive around the town with that extremely decorated electric scooter.

Starting the season off against high level competition isn’t an easy thing to do.
Though the Hi-Liners did what they could in a 12-1 loss to Red River High School in six innings Tuesday, the team left with plenty to work on.
Primarily on the defensive end, where eight players from last season took the field, with only one, pitcher Keely Fogarty, out of her spot from last year.
NDSU Athletics
FARGO — The North Dakota State University baseball team capitalized on three first inning errors to jump out to an early lead and eventual 14-4 victory over Valley City State Tuesday at Newman Outdoor Field.
North Dakota State (19-5) had its first four batters go up to the plate before recording an out. NDSU scored five runs in the first inning off of three hits by Nick Colwell, Kyle Kleinendorst and Trevor Jaunich.
NDSU had five different pitchers throw with Anthony Kliniske tossing two scoreless relief innings and earning his first win of the season.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's Supreme Court said Tuesday that voters should decide whether to keep the University of North Dakota's Fighting Sioux nickname before the courts judge whether a pro-nickname law violates the state constitution.
The court's split ruling clears the way for North Dakotans to weigh in on Measure 4, a referendum about whether UND must continue using the nickname and a separate American Indian warrior profile logo.
The measure goes to a statewide vote June 12. If Fighting Sioux supporters lose, UND intends to drop the nickname and logo.

Valley City High School softball coach Jason Lindgren is the first to admit that his team is plenty young.
With only five seniors, there are numerous freshmen and sophomores that contribute to the Hi-Liners’ success.
But what the team may lack in age, the girls make up for in experience.
“You’re counting on a lot of younger people but they, the sophomores for example, have been playing a lot since they were 8th graders, they saw time when they were 7th graders, so they’ve got a lot of varsity experience,” coach Jason Lindgren said. “It’s not new to them.”
The Valley City City Commission explored the possibility of loaning itself $1 million from the Public Works department for permanent flood protection funding Monday night.
“The immediate need is from May to the end of August when these buyouts will occur,” said Commissioner Matt Pedersen. “The ball is in motion, and I would like to see us come to an agreement that we’re willing to borrow the million and in parallel, research the various mechanisms to pay it back.”

Heavy black smoke resulted from an outside fire at Harv’s Welding on 10th Street Southwest 10:40 a.m. Monday morning in Valley City. Valley City Fire Chief Gary Retterath said welding work was being done on a box attached to a truck, and rubber in the bottom ignited, causing minor damage to the box.
Some protest was heard over the impending Ninth Avenue Northwest reconstruction project Monday night, and the Valley City City Commission vowed to do what they could to make it right.
“I think the assessment is unfair,” Ninth Avenue homeowner Mike Bresnahan told the commission. “In my case, the amount being assessed is about $21,000. The amounts are ridiculous relative to the values of the homes.”
