Pizza Ranch to Open May 12

April 18, 2014

Pizza Ranch will open its doors for business at 1066 West Main Street in Valley City on Monday, May 12. Local entrepreneur Bob Bergan and his son, Tommy Bergan, co-own the new Pizza Ranch in Valley City. The father-and-son duo also co-own City Lights Supper Club and Taco John’s in town.

Viking Softball Sweeps Jamestown for Top Spot in NSAA

Valley City State softball ascended to first in the North Star Athletic Association standings with a 2-1 late-inning win in the first game and a 9-6 triumph in the second — their seventh and eighth wins in a row, all conference games — for Thursday’s doubleheader road sweep of rival University of Jamestown.

Hi-Liner Baseball Splits Late-Game Heroics

Hi-Liner baseball split a pair of late-inning dramatics Thursday night at Tornado Alley in Oakes, N.D. as they surrendered three runs in the bottom of the seventh to lose the first game 3-2, then held on 3-1 in game two’s home half of the fifth after Oakes loaded the bases.

Judge Will Issue Decision on VCEA vs. School Board Hearing Next Week

Southeast Judicial District Judge Jay Schmitz said he will issue a decision in a court hearing between the Valley City Public School board and Valley City Education Association by next week. The four-hour hearing, held Wednesday afternoon at the Barnes County Courthouse, was to determine of the unilateral contracts issued by the board to the teachers are legal.

VC Increases Water Rates

Valley City water rates will increase beginning in May.
According to Valley City City Administrator David Shelkoph, the rate increase amounts to 20 percent for residential customers or $6 to $7 per month for the average residence.

More than $800,000 will be invested in Valley City street repairs this summer; primarily in mill and overlay work along with patching and sealcoating streets throughout the city.
