VC Man Arrested for Luring a Minor

A Valley City man has been arrested for attempting to lure a minor, possibly for sexual purposes.
Chris Kinney, 46, was arrested and charged Thursday with Luring a Minor by Computer or Electronic Device, a class-C felony; and Corruption or Solicitation of a Minor, a Class-A misdemeanor.
On Feb. 5. a juvenile reported to a social worker that the juvenile had received text messages of a sexual nature, according to a press release from the Valley City Police Department. The social worker contacted the VCPD.

Negotiations Over; Valley City School Board to Issue Contracts to Teachers

Negotiations between the Valley City Public School Board and the Valley City Education Association ended after no agreement was reached at a meeting Wednesday. The school board then met Thursday morning to approve issuing unilateral contracts to Valley City Public School District teachers for the 2013-2014 school year.

Farm Rescue Accepting Applications

Farm Rescue is now accepting applications for spring planting.
The Jamestown-based organization helps farm families who have experienced a major illness, injury or natural disaster by providing planting and harvesting assistance free of charge.

Eat at City Lights Feb. 18 to Help Special Olympics

City Lights Supper Club is one of 10 restaurants throughout the state teaming up with North Dakota Special Olympics to raise funds later this month.

Owner Tommy Bergan said 18 percent of sales made at the restaurant on Tuesday, Feb. 18, will benefit the North Dakota Special Olympics. He said the event comes at no cost to the guest.

Fire Culprit: Space Heaters

A fire that destroyed the home of John and Linda Schonert on Fourth Avenue Southwest in Valley City last week has been determined to have been started by space heaters in the basement, according to Valley City Fire Department Chief Gary Retterath.

Duske Named 5th NSAA Player of the Week

Valley City State’s Aaron Duske is the fifth North Star Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the NSAA announced Monday.

Duske, the 6-foot-4 senior guard from Buffalo Minn., averaged 20 points, six rebounds, two assists, 1.5 blocks and .5 steals per game as VCSU split a pair of NSAA conference home games with a 71-69 loss to rival Jamestown on Jan. 29 and an 88-63 win over Dakota State on Saturday.

Taylor, Lindgren, Berg and Meyer Sign

Valley City High School seniors Madison Taylor, Dustin Lindgren, Austin Berg and Austen Meyer appeared at the Hi-Liner Activity Center Wednesday afternoon, in honor of National Signing Day, to finalize their collegiate letters of intent.

Taylor, an outside hitter, will attend and play volleyball for Lake Region State College in Devils Lake, N.D. Lindgren, a fullback/linebacker, signed with Valley City State football, pitchers Berg and Meyer with Viking baseball.

Crump Graduates From VSO Trial

Barnes County Commissioners voted 3-2 Tuesday to end Veterans Service Officer Scott Crumps six-month trial period and hire him on as a permanent employee after rejecting a recommendation by Commissioner Phil Leitner to extend the probationary period. More in Wednesday's issue of the Times-Record.
