Weekend games postponed
Multiple Valley City High School teams had games postponed due to bad weather Friday.
The weather affected a home softball game with Maple Valley/Enderlin, a home tennis match with Grand Forks Central and a road baseball game against against Fargo North.
As of Sunday, the baseball and softball games were still awaiting a make-up date. The tennis match will be played today at 3:30 p.m.

The Valley City State University softball season ended with a 5-2 loss to Jamestown College in an elimination game Sunday at the the last Dakota Athletic Conference Tournament in Mayville.
Jamestown College jumped out to a 4-0 lead, scoring two in the top of the second and fourth before Cyndi Figol got the Vikings on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. The Vikings later pushed across one more runner. Jamestown added one more in the top of the seventh inning.
Rachel Goerke officially opened Sophia Ann Photography in September 2011 after moving to Valley City from California, and is looking to make a name for herself in the portrait business. But whose name is it?
“Sophia was the first cat I ever owned, and I’ve always loved that name,” Goerke said. “And my middle name is Ann, so I thought we’d do something fun and cute.”
Originally from the East Bay area, an hour inland from San Francisco, Goerke was studying to be pre-med with dreams of becoming a pediatrician, but found a different path calling her.
The North Dakota State Board of University and School Lands, also referred to as the State Land Board, approved $25.6 million for statewide flood recovery projects in nine counties, with $500,000 of that going to 10 projects in Barnes County.
“These state grants are an important part of our on-going work to help communities and rural areas across our state recover from last year’s major flood events,” said Gov. Jack Dalrymple, chair of the State Land Board, in a news release. “We will not waiver in our commitment to help meet these changes.”
The June 12 city election will see five candidates vying for two City Commissioner seats vacated by George Dutton and Jon Wagar. This week, the T-R will interview all five candidates to provide a better look at those seeking office and their take on the issues facing Valley City.
Going alphabetically, the first interviewee is candidate Bob Drake.

Valley Twisters Gymnastics Club wishes to clarify that during Jon Liardi’s tenure as coach, there were no safety concerns of the students, there were no serious injuries to any student participating in the program, and there were no incidents of abuse of any student. Valley Twister Gymnastics Club did not believe that participants in its programs were at risk for their personal safety while Mr. Liardi was coach beyond the risks which are inherent from participation in any well-managed gymnastics program.
