Sheyenne Care Center Celebrates 75 Years

The Sheyenne Care Center will celebrate 75 years of operation Wednesday with a full afternoon of events planned for the community to attend. After opening in 1938, the nursing home has gone through many milestones that have made it what it is today. Administrator Craig Christianson says support from the community is the reason the program has been so successful and lasted this long.
The celebration begins at 1:30 p.m. with a services fair in the lobby area of the nursing home. The fair will feature display booths showcasing the various services SCC offers.

Drug Court: A New Option for Young Addicts

Andrew is 24 and has already been in prison.
In 2012, Andrew was arrested for delivering marijuana, a felony in North Dakota. After spending several days in a county jail, a few months in the state penitentiary in Bismarck, and five months in a half-way house, he's staying clean – he's determined not to go back. "I'm still on parole," Andrew said. "If I mess up now, I have to start my whole sentence over. If I just keep my nose clean, and I don't have to worry about going back."

VC Celebrating Walk to School Day

Valley City Public Schools and St. Catherine’s School in Valley City will join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day Oct. 9.
About 1,100 students from the Valley City schools are expected to walk to school Wednesday, Oct. 9 along with parents, teachers and community leaders. Administrators from St. Catherine’s, Jefferson, Washington and the Junior-Senior High Schools with help from Dietrich Bus Service, the Valley City Police Department, School Parent Teacher Organization’s and Barnes County ON THE MOVE Partnership are orchestrating the event.

Old Settlers League bowling was back in action last week.

American Legion No. 1 was 2-0 against Hoff and Jans Upholstry.

Eagles took three games from VFW.

Brothers III took three games from American Legion No. 2 as well.

Dakota Plains won 25 points from Service Master.

Big Inc Sky Lanes won 19 points from Tavern 94.

Gravel Ranch won 27 points because of a bye.

Stack construction won 21 points from Farmers Union Insurance.

Aurissa Martens NSAA Volleyball Player of the Week

Valley City State Middle Hitter Aurissa Martens, setter Katie Wangberg of Mayville State and libero Amanda Kramer of Jamestown were chosen to the fourth edition of the North Star Athletic Association Players of the Week, the NSAA announced Monday.

VCSU 3-on-3 Youth Basketball Tourney Oct. 27

Valley City State University will host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for boys and girls, grades 3-12, on Oct. 27 in Valley City.

Registration is $75 and includes a three-game guarantee.

Oct. 18 is the registration deadline.
