BC OKs 2015 Road Projects

Now that Barnes County has all but completed leftover road projects from 2013 with only seeding left, commissioners approved five new projects for 2015. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.

Babe Ruth Sweeps Linton, Rallies for 5th at Enderlin

Valley City Babe Ruth’s older contingent swept Linton 11-0 and 11-1 in Friday’s District road games before seven runs in the fourth inning lifted the younger bunch to an 8-7 Fifth-Place Game comeback at the Enderlin Tournament on Saturday.

Babe Ruth’s junior coalition found themselves in Saturday’s Fifth-Place Game after falling 7-3 to Enderlin and 11-1 to Northern Cass in Friday’s Pool B action at Enderlin’s Hendrickson Field, “The Palace on the Prairie.”

BREAKING: Elderly Pedestrian Stuck by Truck in VC

Neither alcohol nor speed were considered to be factors when a 92-year-old Valley City pedestrian was injured Sunday after being hit by a pickup.
Rita Weber was struck by the Ford F150 while she was in a crosswalk of Central Avenue North and Sixth Street Northwest in Valley City at about 6:20 p.m.

Weber was walking south on Central Avenue North and was crossing Sixth Street Northwest when she was struck, according to Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson. For reasons unknown, the driver of the pickup failed to see the Weber in the crosswalk.

Faith Lutheran Demolished; New Church to Be Built

Faith Lutheran Church, which was destroyed by arson last October, has been torn down and a new structure will be rebuilt across the street to the east where Smith Lumber Company currently stands. Read more in Friday's Times-Record.

Viking Alum Tony Piccalo New Assistant Football Coach

June 19, 2014

Tony Piccalo is a new Valley City State assistant football coach, Viking head coach Dennis McCulloch announced Thursday.

Piccalo, a 2002 Valley City State graduate, was Cocoa Beach High School (Fla.)’s head coach for the last nine years. From 1998-2001, Piccalo’s undergraduate years, Piccalo was a Viking student assistant coach.

“I had an outstanding time during my four years at VCSU,” Piccalo said. “We had the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, and I really grew as a coach. The university and community have been a big part of my life.”

BC Tables Subdivision Plan

Meeting Tuesday, Barnes County Commissioners decided to table a subdivision request by Terence Brock for a housing subdivision with about 14 residences on 77 acres in Green Township. More in Thursday's issue of the Times-Record.

Area Residents Encouraged to Throw Block Parties

Valley City and Barnes County officials have joined forces to encourage residents to throw or attend neighborhood block parties. When people know each other there is definitely an increase in safety in a neighborhood, according to Sharon Buhr of ON THE MOVE. That’s one reason the national slogan is, "Give neighborhood crime and drugs a going away party! Reduce crime, drugs & violence.”

Injured Truck Driver Says Thanks to 'VC's Finest'

When Jackson,Tenn., truck driver Jack Gaiser fell on the deck of a semi-trailer badly breaking his leg Sunday, he knew he needed help. Thankfully, the Valley City Police and first responders reached him quickly, which was a godsend considering Gaiser couldn't even tell dispatchers exactly where he was.
