Over 200 Valley City State University students spent Thursday morning harvesting thousand of pounds of fall produce â€“ all of which was donated to the Great Plains Food Bank â€“Â at the rural Valley City farm of Dan Faust. More in Friday's Times-Record.
No. 8 Valley City, fresh off Mondayâ€™s 4-1 home play-in defeat of No. 9 Wahpeton, entered Thursdayâ€™s Eastern Dakota Conference Tournament at Grand Forks, N.D.â€™s Choice Health and Fitness, and fell 5-0 to No. 1 Red River in the first round and 5-0 to No. 5 Fargo Davies in consolation.
Red River beat No. 4 West Fargo, 4-1, then defeated Central, who will also advance to State, for the championship.

Valley City Public Schools announces that Dallas Dockter has been named the new head Hi-Liner boys basketball coach.
Dockter, in his 10th year as an educator in Valley City, teaches fourth grade at Washington School.
Dockter is a graduate of Wilton High School in North Dakota, attended the University of Jamestown and graduated with a degree in elementary education in 1995. Dockter also received his masters degree from the University of Jamestown in 2010.
Two-point Eastern Dakota Conference matches do not disappoint.
Valley City kept the first set close and stole the third on Code White night at the Hi-Liner Activities Center, but Red River kept their feet on the gas to snap the Hi-Linersâ€™ 11-match win streak, 3-1 (25-21, 25-14, 25-27, 25-10).
Claire Olson led all Hi-Liners with 20 kills, eight digs, two blocks and two aces, Red Riverâ€™s Mari Rustebakke all Roughriders with 29 assists and seven digs.
Valley City junior Annie Hart and sophomore Camille Kawasaki, members of the Jamestown Blue Jays Swim and Dive team, are headed to Bismarck, N.D.'s Nov. 14-15 State Meet.

Students at Washington Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary School combined their efforts and fruits Wednesday to create a giant fruit salad. Students in each school were asked to bring a piece of fresh or canned fruit to add to the salad, which they got to eat Wednesday afternoon. More in Thursday's Times-Record.
Maple Valley junior middle blocker Rylee Nudell notched her 1,000th career kill in an 11-dig, 10-kill, two-block, one-ace outing Tuesday night at Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page, but 5-foot, 8-inch sophomore setter Jana Mehus's 17 assists, 11 kills and two aces helped the Spartans hold for a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21) sweep.
Dylan Lunn, 21, of Valley City, N.D., clinched his first moto win at the Dakota Motocross Track in Jamestown on Sept. 20.
Lunn, despite the rain, took second overall through two motos in the 450cc C Class, his second year in the competition.
