Court Seeks Facility Grant

Southeastern District Clerk of Court Wanda Auka will try to get a court facility grant from the North Dakota court system to create a permanent jury room, covering 75 percent of the estimated $23,000 total cost. More in Thursday's issue of the Times-Record.

Commissioner Calls EDC On Carpet

Tuesday Barnes County Commissioners Eldred Knutson and Rodger Berntson said the Valley City Barnes County Economic Development Corp. on the carpet for paying more than $4 million for land valued at about $500,000. More in Wednesday's issue of the Times-Record.

Perkins Holding Car Seat Safety Clinic

Perkins, Inc. will hold a car seat safety clinic this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Seventy-three percent of car seats are not used or installed correctly, owner Jerry Perkins said, so he advises people to check car seats before hitting the road.
Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on site to help install car seats correctly. Appointments are encouraged but not required. Call (701) 845-3071 to make an appointment.

State's Attorney Leaving Feb. 14

Barnes County State's Attorney Lee Grossman told Barnes County Commissioners Tuesday he was leaving his elected position Feb. 14.
Grossman told commissioners he was leaving to join the law firm owned by Valley City Attorney Russell J. Myhre.

Shopko Hometown Foundation to Donate up to $2K to VCPS

Those who shop at Shopko this month have an easy opportunity to help the Valley City Public School District gain up to $2,000 from the franchise's hometown foundation.
Customers who visit Shopko between Dec. 1 and Dec. 24 can simply sign their name to show support; no donation or purchase is required. Shopko Hometown Foundation will donate $1 for each signature up to $2,000.

VCPS Cancels, Changes Activities Due to Weather

Marty Bratrud, activities director for Valley City Public Schools, notified the school district of changes and cancellations in school activities due to a predicted winter storm.

*The junior high girls basketball game against Barnes County North is cancelled (no make up date has been set at this time).

*Boys and girls hockey practice is cancelled for tonight in Jamestown.

Clancy Estate Makes $42K VCSU Bequest

The estate of Dr. Sharon Clancy, who died Oct. 5, 2012, has made $42,600 bequest to the Valley City State University Scholarship program, said her brother, Lynn Clancy, in a phone interview Monday from Bismarck. More in Tuesday's issue of the Times-Record.
