South Border Girls Bump Barnes County North in Region 3 Quarterfinals

Barnes County North's Lady Bison basketball season came to an end with Monday night's 67-42 Region 3 Tournament defeat at the hands of District 6 Tournament champion South Border.

The Lady Bison, who finished No. 4 in the District 5 Tournament, went 0-5 in District 5 play and 6-16 overall, took sixth place of eight teams in the Barnes County Tournament at Valley City State University and, after winning two of their final three regular-season games, took the fifth District 5 Tournament seed and upset fourth-seeded Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier, 35-30, in Ellendale.

Maple Valley Girls Reach Region 1 Semifinals

Maple Valley sophomore forward Rylee Nudell scored 21 points as the Raiders beat North Sargent 41-34 in Monday’s Region 1 Tournament quarterfinals at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, N.D.

District 1 Tournament champion Fairmount-Campbell-Tintah (12-0 District 1, 21-2 overall) awaits District 2 Tourney second-place Maple Valley (8-0 District 2, 21-2 overall) for Tuesday’s 6 p.m. semifinal at NDSCS.

Diffie, Parmalee, 32 Below Rock 77th Annual Winter Show

A huge crowd was on-hand at the 77th annual North Dakota Winter Show Friday for the weekend concert that included country music star Joe Diffie and opening acts Parmalee and 32 Below. Here, a racious crowd of young and old goes wild for a variety of rock and country music by Parmalee.

Spring Flooding Chances Low

The third 2014 spring flooding prediction for Valley City shows a lower chance than normal for any type of flooding by June 8, according to Mike Lukes, service hydrologist for the National Weather Service in Grand Forks. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.

Midland Baseball Takes 3 from Vikings

Valley City State baseball opened their spring season with a venture to Fremont, Neb., for three weekend games against Midland University, in all of which they came up short by scores of 7-2 on Saturday, and 8-6 and 16-4 in Sunday’s doubleheader.

Lady Hi-Liners Heading to State

Lady Hi-Liner basketball has made the State Tournament for the first time since 2005.

East Region Tournament No. 4 Valley City took top seed West Fargo to the wire in Friday night’s 59-47 semifinal, then edged No. 7 Wahpeton 57-50 in Saturday’s State qualifier for a date with West Region winner Bismarck in Thursday’s 1 p.m. State quarterfinal in Minot.

VC Bars Can Now Stay Open Until 2 a.m.

Starting today, bars in Valley City can stay open until 2 a.m. The City of Valley City met late last year with bar owners and residents to update its alcohol ordiance and decided that they would allow bar owners to stay open to the state maximum time of 2 a.m.

Following the publication of a title and penalty clause in Friday's Times-Record, the new alcohol ordinance takes effect, said Valley City City Attorney Russ Myhre.
The decision to stay open until 2 a.m. is up to each bar owner.
