Lady Hi-Liners Heading to State

Lady Hi-Liner basketball has made the State Tournament for the first time since 2005.

East Region Tournament No. 4 Valley City took top seed West Fargo to the wire in Friday night’s 59-47 semifinal, then edged No. 7 Wahpeton 57-50 in Saturday’s State qualifier for a date with West Region winner Bismarck in Thursday’s 1 p.m. State quarterfinal in Minot.

VC Bars Can Now Stay Open Until 2 a.m.

Starting today, bars in Valley City can stay open until 2 a.m. The City of Valley City met late last year with bar owners and residents to update its alcohol ordiance and decided that they would allow bar owners to stay open to the state maximum time of 2 a.m.

Following the publication of a title and penalty clause in Friday's Times-Record, the new alcohol ordinance takes effect, said Valley City City Attorney Russ Myhre.
The decision to stay open until 2 a.m. is up to each bar owner.

Eagles Packed for NDWS Luncheon

Valley City's Eagle's Club was packed Thursday for the annual North Dakota Winter Show Women's Division Luncheon.
Division officer Mary Ann Leier, who introduced the afternoon, said this year's crowd was larger than last year's group.

New FCCU Opens Thursday

Valley City's new First Community Credit Union opened in its new location Thursday.
Branch manager Dean Rohrich said there are a few last minute things that need to be done but construction is nearly complete. The sign was put up Wednesday.

Ukestad, Marden, Fredrickson Sign with VCSU Football

Valley City State head football coach Dennis McCulloch announced on Thursday the addition of three more high school freshmen who have signed letters of intent to attend VCSU and play football for the Vikings this fall: wide receiver/defensive back Tyler Ukestad of Jamestown, wide receiver Curtis Marden of Powers Lake, N.D., and linebacker Riley Fredrickson of Wasilla, Alaska.

VCSU Spring Baseball Openers Saturday, Sunday

Valley City State baseball opens the 2014 spring season this weekend with Saturday and Sunday doubleheaders at Midland University in Fremont, Neb.

Games begin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. both days.

The Saturday forecast is iffy, calling for temperatures near 35 degrees and mostly sunny skies. The forecast for Sunday is sunny with a high near 58 degrees.
