Twister Tumblers Make Regionals

Valley Twisters Gymnastics was in Fargo last weekend for the North Dakota USA Gymnastics State Meets, from which Eryn Crump and Rebekah Kauffman emerged as Girls victors and Jonah Kauffman the Boys Floor champion.

Crump won Vault and Bars and took the All-Around title with 35.65 points for a spot on the North Dakota Super 8 Team that will compete at Regionals on April 11.

Bethany Crump also earned a Regional spot with fourth place on Beam and Floor and a first-place 34.625 Level 8 All-Around score.

Valley City Sharks Swim at State

March 31, 2014

Valley City’s Sharks Swim Team competed at the March 14-16 North Dakota State Short Course Swimming Championships in Bismarck.

Annie Hart and Camille Kawasaki competed in the Girls’ 15-16 division, Hailee Peterson and Noelle Thompson in the Girls’ 13-14, Ashley McFadgen in the Girls’ 11-12, Brady Lettenmeier in the 9-10 Boys, Clorissa Nelson and Georgia Lettenmeier in the 8 & Under.

Child Care Needs Community Help

TLChildcare in Valley City, the city's only non-profit daycare, needs help from the community. After operating for years with only one rate increase, the center has dipped into its reserve funds making it necessary to implement a significant rate increase for nearly seven dozen children in the center's care.

Hearing to Determine Legality of Unilteral Contracts

The Valley City Education Association has filed a Writ of Mandamus petition that temporarily restrains the Valley City Public School District from issuing unilateral contracts to teachers after the two entities failed to reach an agreement in contract negotiations earlier this year.

Tower Travel Center Has Cafe, Bakery

Vikings Get ON THE MOVE with Kids

Viking football and volleyball players visited Barnes County elementary schools in the first week of March to exemplify the importance of being active and eating healthy, to demonstrate exercises students can do for training and to show students that physical activity can be fun.

Viking Baseball in Dickinson This Weekend

After just four days off following a 16-game, 12-day Tucson, Ariz. stretch, Valley City State baseball opens their in-state games this weekend with doubleheaders at Dickinson State on Saturday and Sunday.

As of Thursday afternoon, Saturday’s forecast in Dickinson calls for a high near 59 degrees and mostly sunny skies. Sunday’s games could be in jeopardy as the forecast calling for a chance of rain and a high near 40 degrees. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Mountain Time on Saturday, and 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Mountain Time on Sunday.

More Awards for Bussman and Ferguson

A pair of Valley City State University men’s basketball recruits have received even more postseason awards.

Milnor 6-foot-3-inch senior guard Briton Bussman, who became the Class B Senior Athlete of the Year on March 8, was also a finalist and finished second in voting for the North Dakota Mr. Basketball Award. Bussman’s latest honor came with First Team All-State distinction on March 24 that followed All-Region and All-District status.

VC Guard May Be Mobilized

A small group of North Dakota Army National Guard soldiers assigned to the Valley City-based 231st Brigade Support Battalion have received an alert notification for possible mobilization, said the unit's commander, Capt. Nicolette Daschendorf. More in Thursday's issue of the Times-Record.
