At 7:36 a.m. Monday Barnes County announced that Barnes County Road 22 at Hobart Lake was closed due to high winds and waves. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
Valley City State University menâ€™s basketball coach Jeff Kaminsky announced on Friday that 6-foot-1-inch guard Marcus Weeks of Yuma, Ariz., has signed a letter of intent to attend Valley City State and play basketball for the Vikings this fall.
A three-year starter and Gila Ridge High Schoolâ€™s leading scorer in 2013, his senior season, Weeks averaged 14.3 points, 5.1 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game as he helped Gila Ridge High School to a 17-11 record this season.
June 14 saw the very first Valley City Alumni Tennis Tournament that featured over 23 past players from teams including Valley City State varsity, the Valley City State Viking Club, Valley City High School, the Valley City Tennis Association and Valley City Parks and Recreation.
The final matches were not completed due to rain. Money raised from the event supports Valley Cityâ€™s tennis programs and facilities.
North Dakota State College of Science confirmed that the body recovered in the Red River north of Breckenridge, Minn., is that of missing student Andrew Sadek.
Sadek, 20, is a Valley City and Rogers area native.
" Our thoughts are with John and Tammy Sadek and their entire family," the college said in a release. "The NDSCS campus community shares in their grief. Andrewâ€™s loss has touched all of NDSCS, the communities of Wahpeton-Breckenridge, and a great many individuals throughout the state and region."

The Tasty Treat Drive-In, a Litchville landmark for years, has opened for the season, and dining facilities for customers have been added, said owner Vera Walker-Boyle Thursday. More in Friday's issue of the Times-Record.
Barnes County Relay for Life has raised about $29,000 so far in its 15th year, co-chair Lisa McCulloch said. She said the amount is close to what was raised last year, which was about $29,500.

Dawson Dietrich and Garret Suhr threw back-to-back five-inning District one-hitters as Valley City Babe Ruth swept Wishek 12-0 and 14-0 Thursday night at Charlie Brown Field.
â€śThis was a good bounce-back for our boys today after a tough one yesterday [a 3-2 District loss at Napoleon],â€ť Valley City head coach Lance Lukes said. â€śBoth pitchers today did what they needed to do, and threw strikes with the lead they were given. Today was just one of those days at the plate where guys found spots where the defenders couldnâ€™t make a play on it.â€ť

Twenty-two teams competed in June 21â€™s Viking Golf Scramble, hosted by the Viking Century Club, at Bjornson Park and the Valley City Town and Country Club.
The Scramble, one of the largest fundraisers for Valley City State student-athlete scholarships, featured sponsors including Dacotah Bank, Farmers Union Insurance, LaFarge, Miller Motors, Leevers Foods, Heritage, Valley Realty and Wick Construction.
The Championship Flight team of James Thornton, Steve Sedler, Cody Flatten, Jerod Satrom and Kory Klubben won with a 14-under score of 57.
