Morgan Nalley NSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week

Valley City State freshman right-hander Morgan Nalley is the North Star Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Nalley, of Pocatello, Idaho, tossed a pair of complete-game victories for Valley City in Tucson, Ariz., in which she limited Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) to one run on five hits in a 2-1 win on March 14 and added another triumph as she held Mount Marty (S.D.) to two runs — one unearned — on three hits in March 16’s 4-2 contest.

Viking Softball’s Win Streak Snaps

Southwestern (Kan.) softball scored two first-inning runs and never trailed in Tuesday morning’s 5-3 victory that broke Valley City State’s four-game win streak. In the afternoon game, British Columbia’s offense exploded for 13 runs in a 13-1 win.

Valley City State is now 8-11 on the season and 6-7 in Tucson, Ariz. Viking softball continues their Spring Trip against Avila (Mo.) at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Viking Baseball Blasts Hastings

March 18, 2014

Viking bats came alive Tuesday morning as Valley City State blasted 16 hits and scored runs in five of the first seven innings, including a four-run rally in the top of the first, in an 11-7 victory over Hastings College (Neb.)

Valley City State improves to 7-11 on the season and 3-4 in their current Tucson, Ariz. Spring Trip.

Next up is a Thursday doubleheader, the first game of which starts at 3:30 p.m. against Hastings, the second at 7:30 p.m. against Bethesda University (Calif.)

NDSU Hosting VC Garden Forum

North Dakota State University is launching a new series of garden workshops this spring, with one set taking place in Valley City. The Spring Fever Garden Forum will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights, March 25 and 27, and April 1 and 3. More in Tuesday's issue of the Times-Record.

Junior High Drama Bringing Back Favorite

March 18, 2014

The Valley City Junior High Drama Department is bringing back Meet the Creeps, a comedy production that was popular several years ago. The show will be held in the Valley City High School Theater March 20-22 at 7:30 p.m. each evening. Tickets are available at the door, and reserved seating is available through March 21 by calling (701) 845-0483, extension three or at the junior high office.

Lehner, Pedersen, Trautman and Even Named Scholar-Athletes

March 18, 2014

Valley City State senior forward Brittany Lehner, junior guards Stephanie Pedersen and Sierra Even and junior forward Megan Trautman were named NAIA Scholar-Athletes by the NAIA national office on Monday.

In order to qualify for the NAIA Scholar-Athlete award, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.

O’Day, Breske New VCSU Football Offensive Coordinators

March 18, 2014

Valley City State University head football coach Dennis McCulloch announced Friday that coaches John O’Day and Jake Breske have been promoted to co-offensive coordinator positions.

O’Day and Breske replace Marty Costello, who departs for a job at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Costello served as VCSU offensive coordinator for the past three seasons.
