VCPS Approves Some Staff, Program Cuts

April 14, 2014

The Valley City Public School Board voted on an estimated $300,000 to $400,000 in general fund budget cut proposals during a special meeting Thursday. That amount is lower than the $530,000 proposed Monday, because the board plans to reconsider some cuts.

Air Service Returns to Jamestown June 5

Barnes County and Valley City residents will be able to take commercial flights in and out of the Jamestown Regional Airport June 5 after SkyWest Airlines of Utah begins operating at the airport, said airport manager Matthew Leitner Friday."We will have a provider for sure – it's concrete." Hi-Liner Fastpitch Falls to Bishop Ryan Friday, Beats Minot Twice Saturday

Hi-Liner Fastpitch managed just five hits in a 13-1 loss to Bishop Ryan in Friday's first round of the West Fargo Tournament before the second and third rounds were cancelled, so Valley City returned home to defeat Minot High 14-3 and 8-6 in non-conference action on Saturday.

Valley City (1-0 Eastern Dakota Conference, 6-1 overall) enters a road doubleheader against Devils Lake at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, of which one game will count toward conference standings.

Viking Softball Homers Yield Sweep of Presentation

Valley City State softball swept Presentation College in Saturday’s road doubleheader, hitting five home runs and rallying from early deficits in both games to win the first game 12-9 and the second 10-8.

The Vikings improve to 4-2 in North Star action and 15-15 overall, and host University of Great Falls in Monday’s doubleheader.

Viking Baseball Splits Weekend Against Dakota State

April 14, 2014

Valley City State baseball beat Dakota State 3-2 in 10 innings in Friday’s first game and 5-2 in the second, then split Saturday’s games with a 3-0 win early and a 4-3, 11-inning defeat late.

The Vikings improved to 6-4 in North Star action and 15-22 overall.

Valley City hosts University of Winnipeg in a pair of non-conference games at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday.
