VIDEO OF THE DAY: Robin Williams was the Most Popular Google Search Term of 2014

According to Google, which released a report Tuesday on the top trending terms of the year, the top term overall was "Robin Williams," after the well-known and popular comedian died in August. No. 2 was "World Cup," the global soccer tournament held in Brazil in June. Third on the list was "Ebola," the highly contagious virus.

Santa Visits Pledge-a-Thon

August Hochhalter, 4, visited with Santa Tuesday during the Valley City Wellness, Health and Physical Education Center Pledge-a-Thon at the Valley City Parks and Recreation Center. The event was held in an effort to raise funds to close a $4 million gap in funding for the facility.

District 24 Legislators Want School Funding Formula Changed

District 24 Legislators spoke to Valley City School Board members on issues that affect the district Monday during the board's regular meeting.
District 24 Sen. Larry Robinson and Rep. Dwight Kiefert told school board members it is a top priority for them to change the state K-12 funding formula that was passed during the 2013 legislative session. More in Wednesday's Times-Record.

Warrant Wednesday: Serena Sara Murno

Each week, local law enforcement asks for help from the community in locating individuals who have warrants out for their arrest.

Serena Sara Murno is wanted on bench warrants for failure to appear on charges of possession of a controlled substance in jail/correctional facility, and failure to pay fees on the charge of preventing arrest or discharge of other duties.

Murno, 40, is a white female with brown hair and brown eyes. She is five feet four inches tall and weighs 125 pounds.

County Ponders Cemetery Protection

For several years, Paul Stenshoel has urged Barnes County to help protect old cemeteries in rural areas. At a Tuesday Barnes County Commission meeting, Stenshoel said he wanted the county to take responsibility for protecting “abandoned” cemeteries from being plowed up. Bertha Jacobsen

Bertha Jacobsen, 70, Hope, ND, passed away on Thursday, December 11th, 2014 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, after a very strong battle with cancer. Bertha Agnes Kainz was born August 25, 1944 in Northwood, to Bill & Wilma (Zutter) Kainz. She attended school in Hope. Bertha married Leroy Allen Jacobsen on July 27th, 1963 at St. Agatha’s Church in Hope, which was the church that her dad built.

'Tis the Season to Drive

The season could be very joyous for holiday travelers this year with average gasoline prices at a five-year low and dropping. According to the AAA Auto Club, as of Monday, gas in Fargo was about $2.48 per gallon for regular unleaded, compared to $2.91 in November and $2.95 a year ago. The average price nationally on Monday for regular unleaded was $2.54. More in Tuesday's Times-Record.

Chamber Announces Top Winners

December 16, 2014

Both the grand prize winner and winner of the 2014 Snowman Decorating contest were announced Monday by the Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce.

Weekly Christmas in the Valley button contest winners were also announced.
Winner of the grand prize – a Surface Pro 2 Tablet, donated in part by Hi-Line Technology, was Gary Peterson.

Dacotah Bank was selected as the Snowman Decorating winner.
