Viking Softball Sweeps Series at Presentation

Viking softball torched Presentation College 14-4 in five innings and 12-8 in seven on Sunday to complete the weekend’s four-game road series sweep.

In the four-game sweep of Presentation, Valley City State racked up 48 runs, 62 hits, seven home runs and 12 doubles and pulled off a .440 team batting average.

The Vikings improve to 6-2 in the North Star Athletic Association and 17-15 overall.

Lehner Named NSAA Softball Co-Player of the Week

Valley City State senior third base Brittany Lehner is the North Star Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week after recording at least two hits in five of eight games as the Vikings went 6-2 between April 8 and April 14.

Lehner, a 5-foot-11-inch Watertown, S.D. native, hit three home runs in a span of three games, including two game-changing shots in late innings, to help the Vikings to a four-game series sweep at Presentation College.

Valley City Dinosaur Moving to Museum

Valley City paleontologist Alan Komrosky held a farewell party for Bob, the triceratops he and his team dug up in Bowman County and put together over the past 10 years, Saturday, before the dinosaur heads to the Barnes County Museum.

VCPS Approves Some Staff, Program Cuts

The Valley City Public School Board voted on an estimated $300,000 to $400,000 in general fund budget cut proposals during a special meeting Thursday. That amount is lower than the $530,000 proposed Monday, because the board plans to reconsider some cuts.

Air Service Returns to Jamestown June 5

Barnes County and Valley City residents will be able to take commercial flights in and out of the Jamestown Regional Airport June 5 after SkyWest Airlines of Utah begins operating at the airport, said airport manager Matthew Leitner Friday."We will have a provider for sure – it's concrete."
