STEELE, N.D. — Early Sunday afternoon the players of the Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team seemed plenty frustrated.
The root of it was simple. For four innings the team went nearly out-for-out with Oakes before a defensive struggle in the fifth and sixth innings ended the game with a 6-0 loss that put the team on the verge of elimination from the District 6 tournament in Steele.

Post 60 clinches 3 seed at Sectional tourney

July 20, 2012

Entering Thursday's double header with Harwood, the Valley City Post 60 American Legion baseball team wasn't too concerned about getting the sweep.
Instead, the team was focused solely on the first game, a 14-4 win in five innings that clinched the No.3 seed in next week's Section 1 tournament in Lidgerwood.
"We kind of had to win and stay out of Wahpeton's bracket," said Valley City infielder Josh Gilbertson.
It was a victory that kept the team from dwelling on a 9-0 no-hit loss in the second game, which largely used the team's reserves.

The communication between a baseball coach and a player on the base paths can be hard to follow at times. A swipe of the shoulder. A pat on the head. Quick touch to the nose. It's subtle and used to keep an opponent off guard with hit and runs, bunts, and steals.
But in the the bottom of the seventh inning of the Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team's 10-9 win in the first game of a double header with Fargo Monday at Charlie Brown Memorial Field, VC third baseman Collin Schroeder got things mixed up on the base paths.

Steele resident Enzminger enjoys riding close to home

July 15, 2012

Being a professional bull rider is somewhat of a dream for 20-year-old Clayton Enzminger.
Nearly every weekend, the Steele resident hits the road with friend and travel partner Cole Hermanson to ride in rodeos, including some on the Professional Bull Riding circuit, all across the nation.
The only problem is that the events tend to be far from home.
"There are opportunities that come close, but going to PBRs and pro rodeos, you've got to travel a lot," said Enzminger, who rides as a pro but has yet to ride in a PBR event.
