Back in the Game

August 23, 2013

My name is Jake McNeal and I am your new Times-Record sports editor.

I come to Valley City from Portland, Ore., having found a great new opportunity.

But why Valley?

Because Valley City presents a new sports writing adventure, and I wanted to be the sports guy in a small town.

My wish most certainly came true.

Komrosky, who works at Valley City State University, said as he was reeling the fish in, it felt like a log going down the river.

Valley City Swings Away at Shanley

July 18, 2013

Valley City took on Shanley last night in two games of fastpitch softball, at home in Valley City. Shanley was playing with a somewhat depleted roster, and, in fact, had to borrow Haley Schnaidt from Valley City to fill out the squad.
Coach Erika Caulkins's team was all long-ball, pulling off two grand slams in the two games, plus several single- and multi-run homers. Danica Diegel was on the rubber for Valley City in game one, and with one exception threw the ball past Shanley batters.

Kindred Takes Two from Valley City

July 17, 2013

Two seven inning games were played last night instead of the scheduled seven and five inning games. Officials decided to make up a June 17, rain-out in Kindred, between Valley City Post #60 and the Kindred Legion teams.
The first game was a real pitchers' duel had. Jaden Keys was on the mound for Valley City, and F. Andel was throwing for Kindred. Andel just threw heat, occasionally mixing in a cutter, but for seven innings, he made leather pop. Keys had his curve really working last night, to the point he was buckling batters' knees with it for seven innings.
