If you hear the roar of thunder, you’d better head for cover.
Valley City Thunder Football starts its 13th season in 2013.
“When we first started this program, our goal was to make the Thunder Football program a strong and rich tradition in youth football," said Thunder Football Director Mike Lentz. "Thirteen years later, our numbers are great, the excitement is there and the support from the community is overwhelming."
Shane Ost of Valley City State and Kameron Hunter of Jamestown were named the first Co-North Star Athletic Association Men’s Golfers of the Week, the NSAA announced Monday.
Ost continued his hot start to the fall golf season with an even-par 72 and a first-place finish in the Bismarck State Mystics Invitational on Sept. 3. Ost’s big day paced the Viking men’s golf team to a score of 307 and a first-place finish at the six-team meet.
Jamestown volleyball (8-4) brought a four-game win streak to town against Valley City State (4-7), who were on a two-game win streak of their own, for the first North Star Athletic Conference clash between the rivals on Wednesday night.
Scoring streaks told the story of the back-and-forth match — seven-and-eight-point leads did not last long for either squad — but Jamestown took the match, 3-0 (25-21, 29-27, 25-19).
Hi-Liner tennis (1-3 EDC, 1-3 overall) looked to make it two wins in a row as West Fargo (4-1, 8-1) came to town for a conference match on Tuesday night.
The veteran Packers had other ideas, and came away with a 9-0 win.
Hi-Liner volleyball (1-1, 5-3) looked to keep third place in the Eastern Dakota Conference as they hosted conference rival Shanley (3-0, 9-0) on Tuesday night after rallying from a two-set deficit in a 3-2 loss to Fargo Davies the night before.
Valley City kept it close in all three games, but Shanley powered to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-19) win.
Jessica Denholm led the Hi-Liners in assists with 23. Ellie Winter added three, and Danica Diegel two more.
Denholm connected on Valley City's lone ace and totaled 13 digs, Claire Olson 12, Dierra Diegel 11.
Hi-Liner Football has a few reminders for this Friday's game against Grafton:
1. The south street entrance to Hanna Field is still under construction and will not be open this week. VCHS asks all fans to enter through the west gate and apologizes for the inconvenience and anticipates that it will be open for the next home game on Sept. 27th vs. Maple Valley/Enderlin.
2. Stoudt-Ross Ford will host a chili dog feed on the south side of the grand stands starting at 5 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the tailgate. All proceeds will go to the Valley City Booster Club.
