Valley City tennis (1-6 Eastern Dakota Conference, 1-8 overall) played at Shanley (4-3, 4-3) on Thursday in their last regular season EDC match of the year.
Shanley took the match 7-2, but the eighth-seed Hi-Liners' EDC Regional Tournament play-in match against ninth-seed Wahpeton on Monday bears the most important outcome.
The match against Shanley, make no mistake, was an exhibition of Hi-Liner talent.
Dakota State beat North Star rival Valley City State 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-18) Wednesday night at Graichen Gymnasium to earn their second NSAA conference win in as many tries and drop the Vikings to 0-2 in the conference and 6-11 overall.
Dakota State improves 5-13 overall.
Senior middle hitter Aurissa Martens led the Vikes with 11 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Labodi added five kills and sophomore Barb Ector four more.
Sophomore setter Stephanie Miller and sophomore middle hitter/right side hitter Rachel Hummel each recorded an ace.
Sheriffs Coach Reed Anderson is ready.
Thrashing the Vikings, 98-77, in last year's Deputies Football Game was so glorious, so enthralling, that he's looking forward to crushing them again, 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 at Lokken Stadium.
Anderson became the Sheriffs' coach because he is the ultimate source of football expertise.
Valley City tennis (1-5 EDC, 1-6 overall) hosted Fargo Davies (1-5, 1-7) on Tuesday in a duel for the seventh seed in the Regional Tournament.
Davies took the match, 7-2, to draw even with Fargo North for the sixth spot.
"This loss means that regardless of the result of our last EDC match at Shanley on Thursday, we will be the 8th seed," Hi-Liner Tennis Head Coach Matt Nielson said. "Wahpeton is the 9th seed, and will come play us in a play-in match on Monday, with the winners moving onto regionals in Fargo that Thursday (Sept. 26) and the loser's team season ending."
