In the last few years, the Jamestown High School girls hockey team, which has several players from Valley City, has worked to help Relay for Life, and tomorrow night the team kicks off its latest fundraising effort when it hosts a week-long community scavenger hunt.
The hunt will kick off on Wednesday and will end with teams bringing their items in on Feb. 13 at the Eagles Arena Hockey Rink in Jamestown.

CASSELTON — For the last two years, the No. 4 Maple Valley High School girls basketball team has operated like a well-oiled machine.
The formula essentially comes down to Rylee Nudell setting the tone with plenty of points in the paint, then getting a bit of assistance from a deep supporting cast.
But Thursday at Central Cass, the home Squirrels threw a wrench into the equation, putting Nudell at a major size disadvantage, then keeping her guards from getting open looks in a 54-34 loss for the Raiders.

Despite holding the lead nearly the entire game in Tuesday's 69-64 win over Jamestown College Wednesday, the No. 22 Valley City State University mens basketball team struggled with one thing: Rebounding.

VCSU 22 42 — 64
JC: Hannah Steele 17 points, 6 assists; Bridget Schuneman 14 pts.

For better or worse, rivalry games tend to bring out plenty of unexpected moments.
Wednesday at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse, the No. 24 Valley City State womens basketball team was on the wrong side of the equation in an 81-64 loss to No. 15 Jamestown College.

No. 15 Jamestown
Since coach Jeff Kaminsky took charge of the Valley City State University mens basketball team in 2005, the Vikings have prided themselves on defense.
While the defense was plentiful Saturday at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse, it was the offense that never seemed to rest as the No. 24 Vikings had a 111-61 win over Oglala Lakota (S.D.) College.
It was the highest-scoring game the Vikings have had since a 99-56 home win against Trinity Bible College last season and the first time the Vikings have broken the 100-point mark since the 2004-2005 season-opener.
