Valley City State University head football coach Dennis McCulloch announced Feb. 14 that Maple Valley/Enderlin senior defensive end Dylan Claus is among six additional high school seniors who have signed letters of intent to attend classes at VCSU and play football for the Vikings this fall.
The new additions include two players from North Dakota, two from Arizona, and one from both California and Hawaii.
North Star Athletic Association commissioner Cory Anderson announced that Waldorf College (Iowa) will join the NSAA football conference beginning in fall 2014.
"It is with great pleasure that we add a seventh team to our football membership," Commissioner Anderson said. "The inclusion of Waldorf will jumpstart our league into new territory, allowing us to magnify our brand in the NAIA."
Waldorf, located in Forest City, Iowa, was previously of the Mid-States Football Association. The Warriors reside in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC) in other sports.
Valley City State's menâ€™s and womenâ€™s indoor track teams competed in the Cobber Duels at Concordia College on Feb. 1, during which both the men and women managed 13 all-time indoor performance list-qualifying marks.
Valley City State University football has finalized its 2014 schedule.
Head coach Dennis McCulloch announced that the Vikings open the 10-game regular season with a Thursday night, Aug. 28 home game against rival University of Jamestown, the first of two meetings with the Jimmies. VCSU also plays new North Star Athletic Association additions Dickinson State and Mayville State twice, and Dakota State, Waldorf College, Morningside College and Presentation College once.

No. 5 Maple Valley girls basketball beat Wyndmere/Lidgerwood 52-37 on Tuesday night, a contest in which sophomore forward Rylee Nudell scored half of the Lady Raider points with 26 on 6-of-8 free throw shooting. Junior guard Katie Pautz put up 11 points and junior center Megan Kasowski 10 more on 4-of-6 free throw shooting as Maple Valley led 19-4 after a quarter, 27-14 at halftime and 40-24 after three.
Warbirds sophomore center Anna Mauch racked up 19 points to lead her team.
Lady Loboes basketball bounced back from Feb. 11's 48-43 home defeat at the hands of No. 5 Maple Valley with a 51-36 road win at North Sargent on Feb. 13 for their eighth win in the last 10 games dating back to Jan. 18.
LaMoure/Litchville-Marion led North Sargent 19-9 after a quarter, 25-18 at halftime and 36-31 before running away with a 15-3 scoring advantage in the fourth.
Senior guard/forward Courtney Carlson and 8th-grader guard/forward Anna Holen led the Loboes with 12 points and senior guard Tasha Piehl 10 more, all of whom sank two three-pointers.
LaMoure/Litchville-Marion boys hoops finished the regular season 3-1 in District 5 action and 15-6 overall, riding an eight-game win streak and taking nine of their last 10 games dating back to Jan. 18 to earn the No. 2 seed in the District 5 Tournament in Leal, N.D.
The Loboes beat No. 3 Medina/Pingree-Buchanan 69-62 in the first round on Feb. 14, then upset top-seeded Ellendale 62-51 on Feb. 15 for the District title and a Region 3 first-round matchup against District 6 No. 4 seed South Border, 3 p.m. Monday at the Jamestown Civic Center.
Maple Valley boys hoops went 5-5 in District 2 action and 9-13 overall this season for the No. 4 seed in the District 2 Tournament at Fargo Civic Auditorium, where they fell 52-50 to No. 5 Northern Cass on Feb. 14, defeated No. 8 Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page 60-29 on Feb. 15 and fell 54-51 to No. 3 Enderlin in Monday's qualifier.
Raider senior guard Brady Behm led Maple Valley with 17 points against Enderlin. Eagle senior guard Daniel Lindgren scored 19, sophomore guard/forward Graham Hurlburt 12.

The Valley City State women held an early 10-point lead Wednesday night, but the No. 3-ranked Jimmies rallied for a 108-72 win. In the nightcap, the Jamestown men led the entire way to take the game, 89-50.
