Fargo South Boys Press On in Valley City

Hi-Liner junior forward Jared Lentz secured an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double and junior center Ian Schweitzer turned in 10 points, five rebounds and an assist against Fargo South in Thursday’s regular season-ending National Guard Night, but four Bruins scored in double figures to stretch a 41-38 halftime lead to a 77-55 two-point Eastern Dakota Conference standings win.

Fargo South Girls Come Up Big Against Hi-Liners

Hi-Liner junior guard Claire Olson swooped to the hoop for an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double and senior forward Dierra Diegel led Valley City with 18 points and six rebounds against Fargo South at home in Thursday night’s regular season finale, but two Bruins notched double-doubles of their own as four in all scored double figure points to help South hang on late, 55-48.

Viking Softball Finishes Wednesday 2-1

Valley City State softball opened the 2014 season at the St. Paul Dome on Tuesday and finished the day 0-3, but had a 2-1 Wednesday to bring their season record up to 2-4 through the two-day stretch.

Sioux Falls (S.D.) 2, VCSU 1

Viking senior Samantha Nalley pitched six strong innings, but Viking bats could only muster three hits in a 2-1 loss to open the season. Nalley scattered eight hits, allowed two earned runs and struck out five in six innings of work.

Montrose (Minn.) Native Nicole Duske Signs with VCSU Basketball

Valley City State University women's basketball head coach Cathy Hanek announced Wednesday that Buffalo High School (Minn.) senior Nicole Duske has signed a letter of intent to attend VCSU and play basketball for the Vikings this fall.

Duske, a 5-foot-10-inch native of Montrose, Minn., plans to major in Health Science with a focus in Physical Therapy at VCSU.

Lady Hi-Liners Collar Wahpeton

Hi-Liner senior forward Dierra Diegel and senior guard Jessica Denholm had the hot hands Tuesday night as Valley City took down Wahpeton, 61-46, on the road to complement Jan. 28's 54-38 National Guard Night triumph over the Huskies at Valley City State's W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.

Diegel rounded up 24 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the floor, 2-of-3 from three-point range, 6-of-9 from the free throw line, six rebounds and five steals. Denholm drew up 14 points on 5-of-10 inside the arc.

Viking Fish Fry Wednesday

February 26, 2014

Valley City State’s Booster Club will host the first Viking Fish Fry, 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Valley City VFW Club.

Tickets are $15 and include a meal of fish and fixin’s along with entry for numerous door prizes. All proceeds go to VCSU athletic scholarships.

Contact a VCSU Booster Club member or call (701) 845-7161 to purchase your tickets. The Fish Fry replaces the annual Wild Game Feed hosted in previous years.

VCHS Receives Weighty Donations

February 26, 2014

Valley City High School, with the help of the Hi-Liner Booster Club’s Feb. 20 pledge to match $10,000 of the estimated $20,000-$25,000 cost, has launched a fundraiser project to retro-fit the Hi-Liner Strength and Conditioning Center.

Wahpeton Treys Sink Hi-Liner Boys

February 26, 2014

Hi-Liner junior forward Jared Lentz scored nine points and freshman forward Levi Nix eight more against Class A No. 5-ranked Eastern Dakota Conference rival Wahpeton on Tuesday night, but the Huskies knocked down 13 three-pointers en route to a 71-36 win.
