Hi-Liner gymnastics has announced season awards:
Freshman Taylor Johnson is the MVP, junior Abby Brown the Most Dedicated, sophomore Brienne Roehrich has the Best Attitude, and Hannah Sorensen is the Hardest Worker.
Valley City won the Eastern Dakota Conference team championship and took eighth with 136.050 points (35.483 Vault, 31.450 Bars, 33.567 Beam and 35.550 Floor), the best performance of any East Region team, at Feb. 28-March 1â€™s State Meet in Bismarck, N.D.
Hi-Liner pitching held Grand Forks Red River to three scoreless innings in Thursdayâ€™s road opener, but fell 10-0 in six innings before yielding the late game 15-0 in six after 12 fourth-inning runs.
Red River jumped ahead 2-0 in the fourth inning and scored eight more runs in the sixth.
Roughrider senior Samuel Bye brought in three runs on two of seven Roughrider hits in the first contest, and senior Erik Hanson put up a complete seven-strikeout game.
Valley City sophomore Jordan Magnuson worked five innings for three strikeouts against five team errors.
Hi-Liner junior Jared Lentz qualified for State with Thursdayâ€™s 78 at Kingâ€™s Walk Golf Course in Grand Forks, N.D., from which Valley City came away with ninth place for two event points at 341.
â€śThe team struggled a bit today in conditions that were a bit chilly, but not very windy,â€ť Valley City head coach Buff Murray said.
Freshman Levi Nix shot an 86, sophomore Collin Hoss an 88, freshman Drew Oberlander an 89, senior Dustin Miller a 99 and sophomore Jordan Eggermont a 105.

Valley City State womenâ€™s basketball coach Jill DeVries announced Wednesday that Brooke Brommenschenkel has signed a letter of intent to attend classes at VCSU and play basketball for the Vikings this fall.
Brommenschenkel, a 5-foot-7-inch shooting guard, completed her high school career at Norman County West (Minn.), where she is the schoolâ€™s all-time leading scorer with 1,451 points.
Valley City State senior offensive lineman George Trujillo and senior defensive back Pathen Asuncion have been voted 2014â€™s team captains by their teammates following the conclusion of spring practice, and two more captains will be named after fall camp.
Trujillo, an El Paso, Texas native, human services and psychology major and two-time All-Conference selection, returns from his 2013 team captainship.
Valley City State head football coach Dennis McCulloch announced on Tuesday the addition of four student-athletes who have signed letters of intent to attend VCSU and play football for the Vikings this fall.
Linebacker Austin Erickson and offensive lineman Spencer Turck are both seniors at Devils Lake High School, where they wrapped up successful prep careers: Erickson was named All-EDC and 2nd Team All-State this season as well as being voted Co-Team MVP. Turck was voted the teamâ€™s Outstanding Offensive Lineman and was named All-EDC Honorable Mention.
Valley City State announced 2013-14 season awards in Monday nightâ€™s ice cream social, during which each Viking team honored their seniors and team award-winners with highlight reels.
â€śIt was good to honor athletes and celebrate,â€ť Denholm said. â€śI think the athletes like it, and it culminates the whole year.â€ť
Athletic director Jack Denholm presented overall awards for the 2013-14 season, as voted upon by head coaches.

Junior Jared Lentz led the Hi-Liners with an 87 as Valley City took seventh at 375 for four event points in Mondayâ€™s Fargo Shanley Invite at the Fargo Country Club.
â€śWe played in horrendous weather today, with the boys battling the wind, cold and rain,â€ť Valley City head coach Buff Murray said. â€śToday was probably the least amount of fun these young men have had on a golf course in their high school career.â€ť
