STEELE, N.D. — As members of the Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team walked off the field following a 1-0 season-ending loss to Oakes Tuesday in the District 6 championship, the players' faces seemed to match the gray skies that loomed over the field during the game.
There was a bit of sadness and a hint of frustration after Valley City lost by the slimmest margin possible to a team it had pushed to the limit numerous times this summer.
STEELE, ND — The Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team isn't one that lacks team chemistry. For nearly every bobbled ball or untimely ground out, a player has no issue finding somebody who'll lift them back up.
But during a pair of upset victories at the District 6 Tournament in Steele Monday, the team's chemistry took a whole different form.
After beating LaMoure 6-5 in eight innings, Valley City's players opened a 9-3 win over Steele with energy in the dugout.
