After Hi-Liner junior varsity’s 42-6 loss in Wahpeton on Sept. 15 and Sept. 22’s game at Devils Lake that turned out to be a match against the freshman team as the Firebird platoon took on Carrington, Valley City returned home Monday, guest-officiated by athletic director Marty Bratrud, for a 42-6 handling of Kindred.
Valley City and Kindred were oft-flagged for what head coach Jim Breckheimer called “undisciplined penalties” in a “good, gritty win.”
“If we clean that stuff up, there isn’t anyone in the state who can beat you,” said coach Ty Allen.
If your defense builds it, Nate Rodriguez will break it.

“[Rodriguez] is physically stronger than each and every one of us,” said Falcon head coach Nathan Hoots, who urged low, aggressive tackles at halftime. “We were dominating the line of scrimmage for the first eight minutes of the game, but that has not been the case since.”
