Bull riders from the area and nationwide competed in Valley City at the Duel in the Dirt bull riding finals at the North Dakota Winter Show this weekend. The event featured riders from various summer bull riding events.
Justin Stringer, of 5 Star Bucking Bulls, which organized the event, said the finals featured riders from the Sanborn, Steele, Litchville, Sibley and Williston bullaramas as well as some invited stars.

Three first-half turnovers put the Viking football team in a hole it couldn't dig out of Saturday during the first round of the NAIA Football Championship Series.
The Vikings trailed top-ranked Carroll College 35-0 at halftime en route to a 49-0 season-ending loss as a great season did not end the Vikings' way.
The Valley City State University Booster Board and Alumni Board invite alumni, fans and friends of Viking Athletics to attend a watch party Saturday, Nov. 22 starting at 12:30 p.m. at the Valley City Country Club.
Fans will be able to watch the Viking football playoff game which kicks off at 1 p.m. CST. The Booster and Alumni board willÂ provide chili.Â

HELENA, MONT. (VCSU) - More than 10 months worth of preparation culminates in one game Saturday for the VCSU football team.
After setting their team goals back in January â€“ and working toward those goals through workouts, practices and games â€“ the Vikings have accomplished many of those goals, including a conference championship and an NAIA playoff appearance.
Valley City State University did not get enough riders signed up for a fan bus to the NAIA football playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 22, where the Vikings take on Carroll College at 12 p.m. MST/1 p.m. CST in Helena, Mont.
Helena is located in west-central Montana and is approximately an 11-12 hour drive by car, mostly on interstate highways. Flying into Helena is also an option. Flights from Fargo and Bismarck would make stops in Minneapolis or Denver before flying into Helena.
VCSU has provided hotel information for those planning to make the trip via car or flight.
Valley City State University's senior Alley Theroux was named to the 2014 North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) All-Conference Volleyball Team Monday as an Outside Hitter. More in Tuesday's Times-Record.

Miami QB Ryan Tannehill threw 2 second half touchdowns to rally a comeback victory over Buffalo. Buffalo was moving the ball up and down the field early, but could not seem to find the end zone to cap drivers. They clung to a 9-3 lead as they kept Miami in check. Tannehill was able to rally his teamâ€™s offense to score 19 unanswered points to seal the game and second place in the AFC East.

The Valley City State University (N.D.) women's basketball team added more size to its 2015 recruiting class on Thursday.
Viking head coach Jill DeVries announced that Kaitlin Connor, a 6-foot center from Madison, Minn., signed a letter of intent to attend VCSU and play for the Vikings this fall. Connor is entering her senior season at Lac Qui Parle Valley High School.

The Valley City State University football team will face Carroll College in the first round of the NAIA playoffs, the national office announced Sunday.
VCSU, ranked No. 14 in the country, will play at No. 1-ranked Carroll College on Saturday, Nov. 22. Game time is to be determined. The Vikings are making their eighth NAIA playoff appearance, and fourth playoff appearance under coach Dennis McCulloch.Â
