LMM Volleyball Wins Despite BCN Comeback Attempt

October 9, 2012

MONTPELIER — By the time Litchville-Marion/Montpelier's Heather Graalum stepped up to the service line in the fifth set of the team's 3-2 win over Barnes County North, she admits there were a few nerves.
Earlier in the night, the Rebels had taken a two set lead in the match but watched a 21-6 lead in the third disappear as the Bison found their groove and evened it out at two sets each.
But after BCN's Maggie Beddow hit one into the net early in the fifth, giving Graalum the serve and 4-3 lead, the senior was focused primarily on keeping it in.

MVE football loses first game

October 9, 2012

MILNOR, N.D. – Maple Valley/Enderlin football coach Brett Kapaun expected "a dogfight" Friday against Milnor/North Sargent, but what he got was completely unexpected.
Instead of a close fight to the finish, the previously-undefeated Falcons fell 28-6 to a feisty Bulldog squad that put together 20 points in the second half.
It was an outcome that left both coaches shocked..
"Watching Enderlin/Maple Valley against Northern Cass last week we knew the type of team they had but I never imagined a 28-6 spread," MNS coach Eric Olson said.

VCHS football loses to Shanley

October 9, 2012

FARGO — All season long, the Valley City football team has been one of the state's most dominant defensive teams, limiting opponents to an average of less than two touchdowns per game.
Friday night's game with Fargo Shanley was no different, as the Hi-Liner defense stopped nearly everything the defending state runner-up threw at it.
The only miscue came on a 90-yard reverse to the left side by Danny Stasch. It was the play that made the difference as the Hi-Liners fell 6-0 to the No. 2 ranked Deacons.

NDSU football beats Youngstown State

October 9, 2012

FARGO — In its run for a national championship last year, the North Dakota State University football team had only one hiccup — a 27-24 home loss to Youngstown (Ohio) State.
Saturday the No. 3 ranked Peguins again waddled into the Fargodome, but this year, it ended a bit differently. Instead, the top-ranked Bison got timely plays all over the field in a 48-7 rout.
"This one surprised me," NDSU coach Craig Bohl said after the game. "I felt like if we played well, we matched up with them, but nothing of this magnitude."

"They're finding their confidence and they're finding their level of play," Maple Valley coach Jessica Theurer said. "They're really coming around, and they need to this at time of the year."
