VC Youth Bowling Registration Sunday
Registration for the 2012-13 Valley City Youth Bowling Leagues will be held on Sept. 9 from 1to 3:30 p.m. at Sky Lanes.
The Valley City Youth Bowling Leagues are open to all area youth in kindergarten through high school. Grades 3-6 bowl Saturday at 9:30 a.m., grades K-2 bowl Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and grades 7-12 bowl Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
So far this season, Valley City High School volleyball coach Katy Van Dyke has put the emphasis on defense.
After Tuesday's 25-23, 25-8, 25-18 home loss to Fargo Shanley to open Eastern Dakota Conference play, she's expecting to change that emphasis.
Though the Hi-Liners had plenty of success digging balls and keeping them alive, they struggled at times with getting spikes to land in-bounds.
The Maple Valley Raiders volleyball team won its season and home opener to the Barnes County North Bison Thursday.
The Raiders started their season with a 3-0 win, heavily leading in points throughout the match.
Short and and out-of-bounds serves by BCN gave the Raiders some points in the first game, and a scoring streak by senior Cassie Pautz serving produced more points as BCN struggled to respond.
Maple Valley started off the first game with four points in the first couple minutes.
BCN redeemed themselves with four points, but not for long as Maple Valley scored five more.
Valley City High School's girls cross country team took first place in their division Friday in the first annual VCSU Cross Country Meet at the Valley City Town and Country Club.
Running against teams from Jamestown High School, Central Prairie and Sargent Central, the Hi-Liners ended up with 27 points, and VCHS 10th grader April Berntson took first running the 3K race with a time of 12:04.
Jamestown's Maya Moltzen came in second with a time of 12:19, and Jamestown's Rachel Morin came in third with a time of 12:30.
