Early in the season, the Maple Valley High School volleyball team has been on a roll behind a bevy of returning starters from last season.
Saturday, the Raiders continued their success with a third place finish in Saturday's Valley City Optimist Club volleyball tournament.
The Raiders went 3-0-3 to win the tournament's C pool, before losing 26-24, 25-11 to Central Cass in the championship semifinal.
The tournament, which used multiple gymnasiums at Valley City Junior/Senior High School and the Valley City Rec. Center, lasted all day Saturday and hosted 21 teams from both Class A and B.
WIMBLEDON â The Valley City High School football team knew entering the season that their biggest strength would be their defense.
It's the side of the team that retained the most experience from last season, and Friday night, it was a side that coach Scott Roehrich avoided over-coaching.
"I let the kids just play," he said. "I never stunted (them) very much tonight, I just lined them up and let them play football, let them do the things they're coached, and when you've got a veteran crew, sometimes you can do that.
LAMOURE, N.D. â Early in Friday's homecoming game with Edgeley/Kulm, LaMoure/Litchville-Marion football coach Andy DelaBarra just wanted his team to set the pace of the game.
And from the opening play of the game, the Loboes did just that, scoring just over a minute into the game on a 30-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Jared Meiklejohn to sophomore running back Anthony Olson.
