The Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team had its offense clicking on all cylinders in a double-header sweep of Edgeley Tuesday at Charlie Brown Memorial Field.
In two games that lasted a combined eight innings, Valley City scored 41 runs and had 28 hits. The day started with a 29-2 win in five innings in the first game and concluded with a 12-3 win in a three-inning second game.
“Its nice to see our offense continue to go like it has, and for the most part we haven’t been relying on walks, we have been aggressive and collecting hits,” Valley City coach Lance Lukes said.

VC's Jenson takes 6th at state golf meet

June 7, 2012

DICKINSON — In both days of the Class A state boys golf tournament, Valley City High School senior Nick Jenson saved his best for last. The last nine, that is.
In both days of the 36-hole tournament, which ended Wednesday at Dickinson’s Heart River Municipal Golf Course, Jenson struggled in the course’s front nine, but was able to make up for it on the back.
“I like the back nine a lot better here, so I knew I’d make some birdies and I did” he said.
He finished with a final score of 155, which tied for sixth place and earned him All-State honors.

Enderlin/Maple Valley claims inaugural Class B softball title

June 3, 2012

WEST FARGO — There weren’t many times this season when Enderlin/Maple Valley pitcher Kaylee Johnson felt genuine nerves.
But she admits had some butterflies as she fielded an otherwise-routine ground ball with two outs in the top of the seventh inning of Saturday’s 2-1 Class B state championship win over Central Cass at Elmwood Park.
“It was just ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t believe this is happening,’” Johnson said.
A quick, easy throw to first baseman Lakken Boeder not only ended the game, but also made history.

Family ties pave way for Falcons' title

When Maple Valley High School sophomore Abbie Tinjum was younger, she had no intention of joining the Enderlin/Maple Valley softball team, nor did she realize she would become a state champion in the sport.
“I didn’t even want to play at first in eighth grade. I wanted to run track,” Tinjum said.
The difference in getting her on the field was an older sister on the team, who forced her out to a few practices.
“Once I started it, I liked it so much more. Now it’s one of my favorite sports,” Tinjum said.

WEST FARGO — When Enderlin/Maple Valley coach Neva Hamre was asked about a few of her players following Friday's 25-4 win over Grafton in the Class B State Semifinals, she was at a loss for words.
"I just don't really know what to say about them," she said. "We're just — I don't know — it doesn't seem hard. We're just doing what we do."
What they do, and continued to do at the second day of the inaugural Class B State Softball Tournament, is win.
